Album of 2008 - NOMINATE NOW

Post by 1964white »

I suspect Elbow's 'The Seldom Seen Kid' or Fleet Foxes 'Fleet Foxes' are one of the more likely winners in this latest contest

I'm going for :

The Gaslight Anthem 'The 59 Sound'

Between The Blacks Keys ‘Attack and Release’ and City and Colour ‘Bring Me Your Love’ for me.

Will go with The Black Keys ‘Attack and Release’

Portishead 'Third' is a stunning piece of work.

The Elbow often considered their best was a touch too commercial for me and it lacked cohesion as an album. They peaked reached earlier. Still it's a good album for those who like their music a little less challenging and should win this poll. Leaders probably edges their best work but it's the magnificent piece of prog that is Asleep in the Back that I turn too most. The Pink Floyd influences lift rather than destroy the album

Rod Stewart and Ron Wood look like somebody ordered the same rock star in two different colours.

This single moment took me into Elbow back in 2002, played late one night on the BBC as part of their Glasto highlights album IIRC, I bought Asleep in the Back based on this performance

Powder Blue is up there with anything ever written

Black Keys and Portishead gone. Between Calexico, Martina Topley-Bird and Ceramic Dog, then.

I'm tempted to go for the latter, on the basis that someone else might pick Calexico, but I thought that about the Beta Band last time. Hector is also guaranteed to hate Ceramic Dog, which is always a bonus, but this time I'll go for the one which is likely to find the broadest appeal. It's a relationship breakup album, but I'll let that pass.

Calexico - Carried To Dust
Leeds are a myth.

I quite like it too, and if someone nominates it , that will get my second vote.

There were two releases that stood out for me in 2008. Sun Kil Moon's 'April' (which, under the current circumstances, I find it hard to vote for) and Nah Und Fern by Gas, which is a box set compilation of Wolfgang Voigt's (to that point) 4 albums under that moniker. If it's permitted under the rules, I'll go with that. If not, I'll have another think............

Theoretically it shouldn't be allowed however as Gas/Wolfgang Voigt is probably totally unknown to the majority (if not all) our participants I'm inclined to accept your nomination Durly

What do others think ?
