Watched The Lighthouse and Richard Jewell and enjoyed both for different reasons. The Lighthouse - loved the atmosphere and claustrophobia, plus the dialogue and Willem Dafoe was wonderful. Although there wasn't really much of a story and just seemed to be art for art's sake.
Richard Jewell - very engrossing story and well acted, particularly from the lead Hauser, who was robbed of an Oscar nom. Rockwell and Bates were great too as always. A shame the controversy surrounding one scene with the journalist overshadowed the film, as it didn't really lead anywhere and was pointless anyway.

Will try to check out Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story, Uncut Gems, new Tom Hanks and Parasite this week.

I went early WW2 this past weekend catching up with the fantastic Darkest Hour followed by the dramatic Dunkirk which was excellent but lacked any sense of history for me

I tried to work out the best "route" through WW2 using films. Keeping it to the European theatre

1 - Darkest Hour
2 - Dunkirk - the 2017 or the 1958 version
3 - The Cruel Sea
4 - The Battle of Britain
5 - The Damn-busters
6 - The Longest Day
7 - Is Paris Burning
8 - A Bridge too Far
9 - Battle of the Bulge
10 - Fury

My two favourite war films are The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) and All Quiet on the Western Front (1930). Although both are American so wouldn't make your list.

Das Boot is also excellent, for another European one.

I thought "Saving Private Ryan" was a fairly good WWII film - it had a specific timeline and plot in the Omaha Beach sequences and then went on its own way, believably so imo.

Borderline overacting by Zellweger, and it's Garland's last tour, so you know what happens, but conveyed the loneliness and manipulation she experienced. 7/10

Just back from seeing Parasite. Usually when films are given 5 star reviews everywhere, I'm always disappointed, but Parasite was so good! Easily my favourite of all the films I've seen in the last year. I really hope it wins Best Picture tonight!

Watched the Sightseers the other day, what a weird film.... I quite enjoyed it though, had to give up with The Kill list, as it did my head in....

Really enjoyed the gentle Downsizing..

Seering the name 'Liar' in a film title reminded me of the 60s movie "Billy Liar" with Tom Courtenay - he's 82 now.

Like the Mr Men LUFC mood indicator....

Watched uncut gems last night and can recommend it. The reviews aren't wrong when they say it is panic inducing. Most of the film is pure chaos ! I can see why those of a nervous disposition would find it a difficult watch. On the other hand my wife didn't see the point of it and as per reached for her phone after 10 minutes.

Saw Waves on Thurday, really odd film. The first hour was incredible and breathless, but then it seems to change into a completely new film, where the events of the first hour are almost forgotten. Excellent cinematography, acting and score provided by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (for any NIN fans on here). It's pretty gutting and sombre if you're in the right mood for it. Liked it a lot though.

Watched two films over the weekend would recommend both ' The Mule' with Clint Eastwood and Going in Style with Michale Caine both very good

Dr Strangelove

I know it's an oldie, but I hadn't seen it before. Not a huge fan of Kubrick, but it is darkly funny, with a level of tension, and a satirical edge which is still relevant. Recommended, if you haven't already. 9/10
