It is a great feeling right now, and consider since recovering from injuries, and having them back this year we have conceded the least goals in the prem... massive turn around.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 5:41 pm Hard to see Coops getting back in with the way the three defenders on the field played today. We will have injuries though and having four firt choice centre backs is a luxure we've not had for a while (ever?)

Bielsa said prior to the game that Coops had picked-up another knock.Smudge3920 wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 5:08 pm Oh I am a massive fan of Pascal, as I am Coops...yes I saw the vid did find it strange... hope there has been no fall out ...Coop has picked up strains in training before ....? Agree I think Struijk is a definate starter for next year.
Re: Pascal Struijk
Get Pascal signed up on a loooong contract asap. He wowed me when I saw him play in the Under 23's a couple of years ago. He's wowing me in the premier League now

Pascal Struijk's defensive performance vs. Burnley:
10 clearances (Most)
9 duels won (joint-most)
7 defensive aerial duels won (Most)
4 ball recoveries
1 block
1 clean sheet
Superb again today. A towering presence at the back which helped nullify Burnley's aerial threat.

I just hope Struijk's emergence means more youngsters will get a chance next season. We don't have to spend £15-20m all the time.

Re: Pascal Struijk
Love Pascal but you're right, not at his best yesterday if you use the eye test. Couple of errors could have cost us and Burnley should maybe have had three goals. Not all down to Struijk but I didn't think we were particularly tight defensively v a poor Burnley team.

Re: Pascal Struijk
Well in the case of Meslier & Struijk we haven't paid anywhere near the £15m/20m mark.
Meslier....£5m
Struijk.... nowt (I think)
Incredible!

But look at his pluses from yesterday's game.faaip wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 11:54 am Love Pascal but you're right, not at his best yesterday if you use the eye test. I'm thinking giving the likes of Shackleton, Drameh, Summerville, Huggins, Gelhardt and Greenwood more of a chance, rather than just buying players.

Re: Pascal Struijk
This would be in line with Bielsa's general preferences, for sure. However I think there needs to be a top dog for nearly every position, an example to those youngsters of how high they need to take their game to break into the first team. Currently the positions I see us as needing reinforcement in that vein are LB (and by extension covering LW, maybe even CMF) and CMF.
I'd honestly be perfectly happy if those are the only two players we sign this summer. That would be the sweet spot for increasing our immediate quality and keeping the ceiling low for those youngsters.
Re: Pascal Struijk
I'd be happy with Harrison, a creative midfielder and a LB this summer. I don't think we need to go too crazy with spending. I'd like us to save some for a rainy day and we need to start making profits now we're in the PL.mothbanquet wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 12:12 pm This would be in line with Bielsa's general preferences, for sure. Plus we have always been a club that gives young players a chance and I'd hate to see that neglected now we're in the PL.
Re: Pascal Struijk
I really like him but at the mo he gets turned a bit easily as evidenced by the Wellback goal and a couple of Burnley's chances yesterday. Sure it's all part of the learning curve though and he will mature into a top CB.

Re: Pascal Struijk
Agree with those positions, 3 or 4 players max in positions we've not got depth.
Don't want a mass of new players it potentially could rock team spirit which is worth a extra man.
You don't employ great coaches to buy a team you get them to build a team.
As you said earlier be nice to see youngsters break through eventually, even not next season in the U'23 top flight will be a step up.
Of the youngsters my money would be on Gelhardt or Davies to be the first to break through to be regulars in the 1st team squad.

Pascal v Burnley
Re: Pascal Struijk
You ladies & myself have been in full support for Pascal for a couple of years now!
I was pleading & praying for Bielsa to give Struijk games as a CB, eventually he started him in our 1-0 home victory over Burnley where we had to defend resiliently. Pascal hasn't looked back since!
Re: Pascal Struijk- Red card appeal REJECTED
Even though the ref didnt give a free kick initially and the recipient Harvey Elliott has defended Pascal the bent powers that be have upheld his 3 match ban.
Bet if it was one of the ESL Snakes it wouldn't have been rejected.
Its all corrupt.
