It does make you wonder what that impromptu meeting was about when Marcelo visited Pep at the Etihad stadium during last season.

I don't think it's a coincidence that he only wanted to go to City, given Pep is a Bielsa disciple and KP credits Bielsa with transforming him. Pep will continue the work Bielsa did, and he'll be surrounded by players far better than any we can currently hope to attract.

Nice that KP paid tribute to three individuals who take nothing but flack on here.
Well said.

Re: Kalvin Phillips - BREAKING NEWS.......
A sad but inevitable day for Leeds United.
Can't blame him for going to City as we could never match his ambitions. No ones fault that he had to leave to do this-just the way things are with money dictating success.
Wish him all the best except when he plays against Leeds United.
Time will tell as to whether it was the right decision. Will he be happy just being a squad player as that's what he'll be going as due to the obvious talent already at City.
But then I guess his new salary will take some of the sting out of it.

Agreed, Rads/Orta and Bielsa have done/did magnificent jobs here. All credit to them

Bielsa is the best thing that could have ever happened to Philiips. I think Guardiola will be the second best thing - especially give Pep's own style as a playerlufc1304 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 3:43 pm I don't think it's a coincidence that he only wanted to go to City, given Pep is a Bielsa disciple and KP credits Bielsa with transforming him. Re: Kalvin Phillips - BREAKING NEWS.......
I have minor gripes about the board all the time. But, in the bigger scheme of things, what they've done for the club is brilliant. Taking back the stadium. Getting us back in the premier league. Relaunching a quality youth program. And I hate to see Phillips go, but we just made over 40m profit on him. I think Orta's P&L is looking pretty good right now.
We haven't had a better ownership and board since the Wilko days (I rated Ridsdale at the time - but not in hindsight

Ridsdale panicked, had he kept his nerve we'd probably never have had the following 18 years... Once he started a fire sale we were done.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 4:40 pm I have minor gripes about the board all the time. Just a little titbit from The Athletic article for those wishing him well. . . .
So City had a free run and, crucially, Phillips was determined to join them — to the extent that if Leeds stood in his way, he would force the issue
He likely cost us millions just like those others who "forced the issue"

I agree with Radz coz he's not a gazillionaire, but Orta no, of these new signings which ones do you consider Ortas and Jessies ?
KP was already here.

Still being proven right years on.
Radz is a businessman - and knows nowt about football.
Orta is a fraud - and knows nowt about footballers.
Bert - A footballing mastermind that they both got lucky with, end of.

Re: Kalvin Phillips - BREAKING NEWS.......
It's up to folk to choose where they want to work isn't it? Why should anyone be forced into going where they don't want to go. I do agree it's very frustrating for us loyal footy fans Cjay, but at the end of the day its Kalvins choice. Who's to say that any other club would have come in for him? If City were the only serious contenders then he hasn't cost us millions.Cjay wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 1:56 am Just a little titbit from The Athletic article for those wishing him well. . . .

Add up all the dosh leeds WOULD'NT have if KP had left and joined Villa in 2019. -Promotion to Prem and the promised land etc-Cjay wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 1:56 am Just a little titbit from The Athletic article for those wishing him well. . . .

Then subtract the imaginary fee that some imaginary club would have paid for him had he not wanted to join the Premier League champions.
How much are we in front?

That seems to be fairly clear from how things panned out. I mean, a young English international leaving a club should see a feeding frenzy, last summer we were referring to figures of 80 and 100 million.
As I said at the outset, to me he is little different from Kewell. Great player for us, kinda f**ked us over in the transfer.

Re: Kalvin Phillips - BREAKING NEWS.......
Just watched YouTube Kalvins first day at city, (soz can’t do links). The lads cumming in his pants at citehs training facilities, he’s like a puppy with his first bone, says he’s never seen anything like it, he’s obviously happy there. His family look over the moon as well. Good luck to him, says the thing he’s looking to most is playing ‘with Jack’.
For me, he’s gone. Just shows how the rest of us love Leeds to the point of being blind to what can be achieved with a despotic nihilist regimes’ gazillions. Take the big buck KP, you’ll earn it.

I hope we never become a Man City. Where a league win in a stadium they struggle to fill is a bad season because yet again they failed to land the CL. Re: Kalvin Phillips - BREAKING NEWS.......
You have to remember the red side of Manchester have nearly 80k fans attending the Theatre of Sh*te every game. It wasn't so long ago, as a one city club, we struggled to fill two thirds of our ground.
I doubt we'd fill a 60k stadium right now, tbh.
I'd love to see our club dominating football again as we did in the 60s/70s, just a dream as it won't happen.
Citeh are a great watch for all football fans who appreciate the beautiful game.
Good luck Kalvin, he deserves any success coming to him, he won the only medal he could conceivably achieve at Leeds in our 2019/20 season, now he can reach for the stars!
