Casual Cyclists....
Are they on a deathwish or what ?
I left the house at 7.45am on a horrible dark dirty morning, roads are flooded with the amount of rain we've had overnight & still pouring down, i've witness three youngsters on their bikes with dark clothing & no lights on IDIOTS ! Irresponsible parenting too, they shouldn't allow their kids to ride around the roads without proper safety measures instilled in their tiny minds !
I even saw an old dear on her way to an early shop at Tesco's, shopping basket in tow on front of bike, no lights. Senseless.
When we were kids we always check our lights & bell were working & our tyres pumped up, now they don't bother
No doubt some parents would blame the motorist if one of their sprogs were badly injured or worst still killed in an accident !

Just think yourself lucky....... a couple of years ago some cycling MP pillock tried to introduce a new law which AUTOMATICALLY made the car driver 'at fault' in any car/cycle accident, no matter what the circumstances!

I don't like the cyclists that just ignore the red lights
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Re: Casual Cyclists....
While we're cyclist-bashing, any chance we can stop them cycling on the pavements? I don't mind kids doing it (to an extent), but there is no excuse for teenagers/grown adults getting in the way of pedestrians!

Re: Casual Cyclists....
In the city, the problem here isn't lights or visibility (people are barely brave enough to walk the streets nevermind cycle at night) but rather the fact that there are shortcut alleys all over the place pperpendicular to the roads. Kids don't really see them as roads with cars on them, more crossings between the alleys. And hence, they fly out of the alleys on to the road. The council quite rightly has started putting up more railings at the alleys to prevent this, but I still think its installed a nature into the kids that cars are the ones who need to watch out. Yet everyone needs to accept that they personally need to limit their impact on the likelihood of an accident occuring.
This consensus of "well if that accident does occur, then it will be that persons fault legally" needs to be eradicated from peoples thoughts. It, along with claims, removes the naturally risk assessing tendencies we should all have, and creates a crappy blame culture.

Re: Casual Cyclists....
There are arrogant aggressive motorists on the road too but that is not the point of this post.
Cyclists without lights is extremely dangerous & it must be very distressing for any driver who knocks down one of these idiots !

Re: Casual Cyclists....
Very true, but it is irresponsible motorists who cause more cycle related accidents...which is why the ruling was brought in.ldj90 wrote:

In Leeds there are many wide pathways that are also designated as cycle routes. more than wide enough for responsible cyclists to pass pedestrians.LUFCRACE wrote:

Re: Casual Cyclists....
When I went down to St Neots for my cousin's wedding a few years ago, the paths were clearly marked, one side for cyclists, on for pedestrians. This I don't have a problem with, in fact, I think it is quite a good idea. Part of the reason my bike is in the garage gathering dust and has flat tyres, is because I wouldn't really like to be out and about cycling on the roads, I don't think I would feel safe.Armleywhite wrote: In Leeds there are many wide pathways that are also designated as cycle routes. more than wide enough for responsible cyclists to pass pedestrians.
If it was me, I might ride on the footpath, but would move onto the road if I was coming across pedestrians.
I'll amend my original statement: IF the road is wide enough, and the cyclists are responsible (which in my experience they rarely are - if they were this thread would never have had reason to get started), fine. But generally speaking they're idiots who get in the way.
