Yes but Barcelona are a huge club , Messi as been surrounded by top players all his career
Napoli were a poor impoverished club when maradona went there , they ain't won a carrot before he went there he , dragged them up virtually single handedly

Maradona was unique and different gravy
Imagine Messi is pretty popular at the far more famous and successful Barcelona tbf . . . . Just a hunch

Exactly wining trophies is far easier to do at a club like Barcelona than it is at a club like Napoli that's why maradonas achievements are far more unique
It's like comparing Liverpool to a team that as won virtually nothing throughout their history

Messi beats Maradona on every conceivable metric.

Trophies, goals, longevity,

But winning a few trophies for Napoli (who paid a world record fee, hardly impoverished) counts for more?

Nah.

Maradona had 7 or 8 years at the elite level.

Messi has been on the awards for the best player in the world (including again this year) for 18 years

When maradona was playing they were far more world class players about , the pitches tackles conditions were far worse
Messi plays in a totally different era far more sanitised , pitches like bowling greens no knee high tackles etc Messi and Ronaldo after that your struggling
As far as ability and ball control are concerned Messi ain't in same League as maradona

Will be awarded his 8th 15 years after his 1st this evening apparently.

Despite criticism R9, Eden Hazard, Thierry Henry, Pep Guardiola, Rodri, Olivier Giroud and more have all backed the GOAT to win.

If anyone hasn't watched the film The Hand of God I would recommend it as a really good watch.

It is in Italian with subtitles. The film revolves around the early life of the director in Napoli. With the backdrop of Maradonna's time there.

An intriguing insight into the bonkers city of Napoli, a football mad, one team city, just like our own.

Ain't no battle said it ages ago read the thread difference of opinion that's all maradona could do things with a football Messi could only dream about
I respect his opinion but I can go farther back than he can
Messi is a great footballer don't get me wrong but maradona is a god in Argentina and naples

Graeme Souness who played against Maradona 5 times said Messi was the greatest ever.

When informed of this opinion by a journalist Sir Alex Ferguson agreed highlighting the longevity of The GOAT as a key factor.

That is good enough for me

15 years at the top is absolutely unparalleled
