Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada

Technically a mini album but I'm having it. Their best piece of work, for me.

Re: Album of 1999 - NOMINATE NOW

Not at all Cat, don't think the Sigur Ros album will appeal to many or gain enough votes to win, it's an acquired taste & just happens to be my favourite in what was another poor year for music imo! Tom Waits 'Mule Variations' or The Flaming Lips 'Soft Bulletin' would have been my other choices. I'...

Re: RIP To those departed - Maradona

Maradona is, for me, the best player ever. Absolutely sublime talent. Lived a full and very colourful life but loved to play the game. Absolutely loved it. Rest easy DM.

I agree, it's her worst but I still really love the first track on it where she duets with Bertie. Worth buying just for that, in my opinion.

Although Ian is too late to nominate, this is a bloody great album.

Re: Album of 1989 - VOTE NOW!

Beastie Boys
The Cure
Kate Bush
Pixies
Fugazi

Good selection this time round. In many other years, NMA, XTC, Tom Petty and De La Soul would have all got into my top 5.

I'd forgotten how much King For A Day from Oranges & Lemons reminds me of Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

:) I unashamedly love Max. He's brilliant. Voices will definitely get an end of year nomination from me.....as Sleep did 2 or 3 years ago.

Durly might like it too

The Mercylane one is a new project from Ron Austin, who was the drummer with one of my absolute favourite bands of the early 90s, The God Machine. First new music he's recorded in about 25 years.

Is Ed Alleyne Johnson your cousin Durly? His debut 1992 album Purple Electric Violin Concerto was a regular playlisted cd in the music store I owned, sold many copies of that album, we generally kept our playlist light, inoffensive & easy on the ear such as EAJ, Enya, Enigma, etc selling 1000's of ...

Re: Album of 1989 - Nominate Now

No Rest still edges it for me, but there's quality songwriting on everything they've done. One of the few bands that never 'sold out' too. They were also one of those bands who had an almost religious following in the 80s. Their fans would follow them to every date on each tour. Hitching, sleeping ...

Re: Playlist over the last week......

It was only for a short while, and nothing came of it. He was actually disillusioned with original music at the time, and just wanted to do weddings and corporates to earn some money. Really nice guy though, and a fantastic, creative drummer. I guess that shows that creativity often doesn't pay and...
