Leeds United Vs Reading

Jack Harrison's late goal sent Leeds top of the Championship as they beat Reading in an uninspiring encounter. Leeds broke from a Reading free-kick, Gjanni Alioski found Helder Costa whose deflected cross evaded the Royals defence and allowed Harrison to head home at the far post. Leeds dominated possession, as ever, but created few clear-cut chances, although Patrick Bamford chested over from a teasing cross and Stuart Dallas struck the crossbar on 63 minutes.

Michael Morrison almost put Reading ahead midway through the second half, but his effort from six yards flew over after John Swift's ball caused confusion in the Leeds defence.

Reading manager Mark Bowen said: "That was a very tough one to take. We had a game plan; we'd done a lot of homework and preparation on Leeds. They are a team that creates a lot of chances and dominates play. But although they had a fair bit of possession, I don't think our keeper had a real shot to save. So, that's a tick in one box. But I'm a little bit bitter about how it ended."

Leeds, on the other hand, played really well, they were patient! They build-up the games and organised themselves in the way that they were the ones who dominated the match! Even though in the first half they were left behind, and had poor shots, they came back in the second half and won the match!

The manager of Leeds, Marcelo Bielsa commented: ‘’When you are top of the league, it is better than other positions in the table. But it is also true that today, it doesn't mean a lot. The most important thing is what happens in May. Tonight, it was a tight match. It was difficult for us to create danger in the first half. In the second half, we changed, and we attacked a little more. And enough to deserve the win. We defended well when we had to. Reading's chances were linked only to set pieces. It was a very demanding match, but we were able to stay without conceding a goal. We had patience. This is a signal of our maturity and experience of the team. It showed in the way that we managed the ball, especially in the centre of the pitch."

The matching pressure increased after the second half; you could clearly see leads taking the lead. Patrick Bamford, the striker of Leeds should’ve pushed himself a little more. But then Ezgjan Alioski made a run where the oncoming Harrison marked the victory.
