Ditto re Alanis.

I'm really proud of the forum that we have got this far in and nobody has mentioned Oasis. Well done, folks!

I'll stick my hat in the ring with Peej. Other options were Tricky, KC, Sonic Youth, and Low, but Polly is the one I'd want if no one else was going for it.

PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love
Some cracking options there. TBYML is possibly my favourite Peej album.

Nothing against the Alanis, just can't listen to it anymore. It's a personal thing. Has it gotten bad? No. Was it massively overhyped on release and thought better of than it should have been ...probably

Polly is just quality right through her career. Stories From the City..Stories from the Sea probably shades it for best album for me

With all due respect to Faaip & Sara, excellent albums don't become poor/bad as the years drift by
No, although tastes and perceptions change.

I've not listened to it for years, I'm going to have to give it another go, aren't I!

Secret Garden 'Songs from a Secret Garden'

Nocturne is gorgeous :)

A few of you maybe wondering where have I heard this tune from?

I've actually listened to both Alanis albums in the last couple of years. I shall be returning to all the ones on the current list. Already listened to the Hum & Red House Painters that I wasn't familiar with so I've made a start :-D

Knew The Bends would be up there. I think it would be my choice. These mid-decade nominations overlook my favourite stuff which falls in between.

Was tempted to put forward Vee Vee by Archers of Loaf, or Alien Lanes by Guided by Voices but I don't think they represent the best by either band or for the year.

Instead I'm going to nominate some Canadian content here that has nothing to with Alanis and in my opinion is the best work by the band in question. Also feel it stands up to anything released in 1995:

Rheostatics 'Introducing Happiness'

I doubt many here will have heard of it, but give it a spin if you have time. Well worth a listen.

The RHP album is absolutely beautiful.

The Hum one is not universally known, although loved by a lot of people within the industry. It's by far their best work.
Enjoyed the Hum one, last track wouldn't be out of place on a RHP album.
After the album finished playing on youtube, it went on to play Downward and Heavenward, which I actually enjoyed more.

Whether you like it or not Sara, that just smacks of music snobbery.

As it happens I do like WTS(MG) ........so there :P

Just not as much as the Pulp album

I found wtsmg, extremely boring, wonderwall is one of those songs I really dislike, not helped by the fact every festival I've ever been to, there is always someone on the campsite, who should never be let near a guitar, playing and singing it out of tune.

Selective snobbery, if you like, although my objection isn't that it's mainstream, I like plenty of mainstream stuff.

I genuinely don't like or rate it, but then I really don't like or rate the Beatles, so I'm not going to be impressed by someone who declared himself a songwriting genius for ripping them off.

It's also a horribly compressed recording and sounds so fake to my ears. Everything about it irritates me tbh!

This is getting uncanny... (Although I do have a soft spot for Beatles songs done well, by other artists - eg I'm down - Adrian Belew)

Apparently, I have to submit an entry, as I have popped out of my hole for a brief moment in the sun...

1995...

It's got to be Thrak - King Crimson
