Leeds Utd v Sheffield Wednesday Match Thread - Bamford & Douglas Start

Post by Ellandback1 »

Leeds Utd v Sheffield Wednesday

Saturday 11th January 2020 15.00 | Elland Road

Sheffield Wednesday are the visitors to Elland Road on Saturday as the Whites kick off 2020 hoping to stay top of the Championship.

Pablo Hernandez has recovered from injury, and has been working hard all week to build up his fitness. He is expected to at least make the bench. Jamie Shackleton is also on the comeback trail. The 20yo played thirty minutes for the U23's during their 5-0 demolition of Hull on Sunday evening. Both Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford are also fit and healthy following Monday’s FA Cup tie against Arsenal whiclst Adam Forshaw will return to training next week. Bielsa is expected to drop Gotts, Stevens, Meslier and Berardi to the bench. Skipper Liam Cooper is expected to return to partner Ben White at centre back.

Garry Monks team had a torrid Christmas, losing games against Bristol City, Stoke, Cardiff and Hull which saw the Owls drop to 8th place in the table on 39 points. Their nosedive ended last weekend when they knocked the Seagulls out of the FA Cup. Garry Monk will be without revitalised striker man Steven Fletcher after he suffered a knee injury in the FA Cup win at Brighton. The 32 year old has been a vital presence up top for Wednesday, scoring 12 goals so far this term.

Last time out at Hillsborough in October the two sides played out a nil nil draw. Leeds are unbeaten in three league games against Sheffield Wednesday since losing 2-1 at Elland Road in March 2018. Sheffield Wednesday are without a clean sheet in their last 12 away league visits to Leeds since winning 2-0 in the Premier League in August 1996. Sheffield Wednesday have lost three consecutive league games - they last lost four in a row in November 2018. Sheffield Wednesday's Adam Reach netted in the FA Cup last weekend versus Brighton, ending a 17-game run without a goal.

Paul Robinson has also said he'll be back on Saturday. Seems very early after hammy problem.

It's when you see stats like that it becomes very obvious how much difference Pablo makes but to be relying on a 35 year old smacks of the management being very short-sighted.

Don't totally understand the table, but I'm glad to see Berardi featuring high up. He's been a rock this season.

And yes, let's smash 'em! Every win now is a step closer.

Just a set of stats designed to prove something or other. I think it's supposed to indicate importance to their team and in that case one wonders why Berardi doesn't play more

Hope the lads arent complacent after playing so well on Monday.
Definitely too soon to see Pablo back in the 11 imo, maybe 10 minutes at the end if we are cruising.

We can expect Monk to abandon his 4-3-3 in favour of 4-4-2 he likes to roll out against us.
In either case our three at the back can expect an ariel bombardment. Weather suggests high winds during the game so let's hope they overshot their crosses.

Big big test tomorrow which can set up a winning pattern and put an end to our doggy run points wise.

We've got this I reckon. Their top goalscorer is injured too, which works in our favour.

Great to see Pablo back, but pleased he's only on the bench, maybe save him for last 15 mins if we need his magic when the Wendies have stopped falling over
