The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Monday 7th October) Is it time to press the panic button?

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Monday 7th October, and here are the Leeds Utd headlines

Lady luck deserts Leeds yet again

Leeds slipped down to 5th place at the weekend having for the third time in six games; this time to Millwall.

Once again, lady luck deserted the Whites as early as the 15 minute mark. The Lions were awarded a hot disputed penalty which saw Berardi receive his marching orders for the seventh time in his Elland Road career.

Courtesy of ELLuTV, we can see the penalty decision, close up, and in slo-mo.
Did Berardi tug at the forwards shirt before he went to ground?

Did their feet get tangled up?

Did the forward blatantly dive without ANY contact?

One thing I noticed as the player went to ground was that Phillips had caught up with play and therefor Berardi was NOT the last defender, but did the Leeds No 28 stop an 'obvious goal scoring opportunity?

Is Berardi too much of a liability? Who'd like to see Struijk given an opportunity alongside White?

Is it time to press the panic button?

If you kept making the same mistake time and time again at work, what would happen?

You'd probably lose your job! Why on Earth does Bielsa NOT learn by his mistakes?

He has ONE style of football, and he'll play the same team, week in, week out. Surely, this must give the opposition a massive advantage over us and will set up shop accordingly!

When was the last time, if ever that Bielsa has made a tactical change to the starting line up, and if he hasn't, surely that's poor?

Does this give Leeds any advantage at all?

Will Bielsa's stubbornness cost Leeds promotion?

We are 5th in the table on 20 points. If we had one point less, we could be in 9th place!

Social media boo boys lay in to duo

It was Helder Costa and Mateusz Klich's turn to receive pelters from the social media boo boo's with one poster even suggesting that Klich must have nude pictures of Bielsa for the gaffer to substitute Phillips instead of the Polish International. Costa on the other hand looked lightweight and out of sorts. How he lasted 45 minutes is anyone's guess?

If you were Nketiah......

Bamford's dry spell in front of goal now extends to six games. With a quarter of the season concluded and Nketiah yet to start, I wouldn't blame the lad if he wanted to return to the Emirates in January. He'd actually get more game time for their first team than he would for Leeds.

The England U21 International has scored 23 times for England in 27 appearances yet Bielsa refuses to change his tactics to allow the young starlet a start.

Berra is completely innocent in this case. The ref was being a trigger happy biased prat.
Keep berra in the team as long as we can.. He puts his heart and soul into the club, and is not as much of a liability as a lot think.

Marcello is too stubborn for his own or should I say the clubs good....
I think that it will cost us this season, he needs to swap some things around occasionally.

Swap Eddie in the start up for Barn door Bambi... he (Bambi) needs some time in the U23's to get some match practise at finding the goal... But generally he is too slow and clumsy for our needs up front, it seems he would rather work and fight in midfield than make a good run into the box, if he wants to do that, fine, but not as our No 9.

Costa needs to buck his ideas up, as at the moment he is no improvement on anyone we have here in the U2e's waiting to get into the team.

Not a red card if Phillips was the last man which he was :booked: scum-loving ref should have only produced a yellow in that scenario

I think that we may just have the 'squad' to overcome our problems or at least try to BUT Bielsa is Bielsa and I am convinced that the team he put out for the first game of the season, if all available, would be the team put out for every game no matter how they performed ! We just cannot win anything with that approach ! Come on Bielsa MANAGE the problems !!

Not a penalty, not a red card. Don't hold out much hope for the appeal though.

I think, at the moment, we need to trust Bielsa to find the most effective team. I'm as frustrated as anybody with recent results, but all this talk of panic and disaster is completely premature. It's the hangover from last season. We have the ingredients and it's 90% there.

Morning everyone, Hardly a pen, not a red card, Bera should get it overturned, judge for yourself wether that is a good thing... play a player out if position and expect the errors to continue.
Fault lies with MBs square peg round hole philosophy. If MB knew an alternative we would have ut.

At the moment we would get beaten by a team of wheelie bins. ( we all know the joke)
National break? No thanks, recall whoever is leaving and get them playing the U23s every day.
If Eddie doesnt get a gig expect him to do a Lewis Baker. But now the responsibilities resting on him, and Costa are disproportionate... Where else but Leeds eh?

Social media boo boys, more frustrated fans who see their beloved team struggling to get they rewards they feel they deserve. Social media is just an I interchange of ideas good and bad. Only the ref gets booed at EL... most of the time...

"Football is about the people and the players,” he said. “Then there are those who will mingle in the middle: the coaches, executives and journalists. That last group represents the worst part about football" Marcelo Bielsa

Bielsa is the consummate professional.

Even after getting screwed over, Bielsa refused to criticise the ref.

Imagine if that had happened to Fergie. The ref would have woken up next to a horses head. The next time, the ref is going to think twice before blowing his whistle!

What happened against Millwall is more or less the story since I started my love relationship with Leeds Utd. in 1964. Unfairness and hate against us from the football authorities. Kicking and cheating against Leeds Utd. is ok and everything stopping us to progress is accepted.
But for me and many others this is just to make our love for this great Club bigger. I am sure the ownership of Andrea Radrizzani with the great help of Victor Orta and Angus plus Marcelo are the last chance for this great Club to come through all this adversity.
I really hope the good will conquer the evil under that leadership and they will come immortal in the history of Leeds United.
MOT against the rotten system and end the season with promotion.

But why do you think this happens Sprake? What have we done to deserve such treatment? You go back to 1964....it was 1970 when I became besotted with this club and I've witnessed some shocking treatment of us as well!

Think it started by envy. Under Don Revie we came very quickly in the limelight giving the Big Boys Man.Utd. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea etc. the finger and make the live harder for them. Since then I believe it is just a life-style in big part of the english soccer world to be against Leeds United.
Now after some lean time we have got the Revie mark 2 in Bielsa and the Club are rising up again and that is more than the poor enemy can tolerate.

This is why I am such a fan of VR as it will hopefully remove poor refereeing / cheating refereeing against us. Yes it has its faults but it can't be as bad as some of the refereeing decisions that seem to go against us so often.

Berardi

I thought it was a pen and sending off in live viewing, it wasnt, at most it was very poor defending in the first place.

It should be overturned, but I'm torn over whether thats a good thing. Personally ive had enough of Berardi and this cult hero stuff, he is unreliable and id rather we moved on from him especially at cb.

Back up full back is fine.

However, the Millwall guy should get a ban same as Dwight Gayle did.

Bielsa

I think its to late to panic, the main mistakes were made in poor recruitment. Panic can come next season if we arent promoted and White, Nketiah leave, MB leaves, Hernandez retires and we have to sell yet more players to cover the boards ass.

Personally not surprised about MB, we knew what we were getting, a legendary, flawed genius. The man is stubborn, and with the good comes the bad and maybe ultimately failure in terms of winning things. Its not something MB specialises in, he specialises in doing great jobs with the tools available, Bilbao, Marseille, Chile, but ultimately he falls short in terms of trophies. He did a great job last season but we fell short.

What frustrates me is with a bit more ambition from the board we would walk the league, same as last season, they are the main issue with the "that'll do" attitude.

Klich/ Costa

Im a fan of Klich, but i dont think he has looked the same this season, tired maybe?

We need him to step up because take Pablo out of the side he is one of the few who can pick a cutting pass or provide a goal.

Costa will come good, not worried about Costa, he needs time. Talent is there.

Nketiah

Bamford's all round play has been really good recently, just lacking goals. Everything else, workrate, hold up play, link play, very good.

WBA fans were singing his praises on the forum, gave Ajayi and Bartley nightmares and pulled them all over the place.

Id like to see him and Eddie start all that being said. I think they would compliment eachother well, Eddie on the shoulder with Paddy going short, think it would work well.

And ffs its different, try something different.

Good post, recruitment in the summer put us on the back foot, the league was there for the taking and we didn’t push the boat out enough, a mix of finances and Biesla. That’s not to say we still won’t win, I think we are one of the top sides, just off the boil a little, the worry is it’s the same issues as last year

Ifyou're a defender and you have to keep an eye on both Bamford and Nketiah for an entire match, you're going to make mistakes. These two need to forge a relationship, just like Beckford and Becchio.

Can't agree with much of that CJay :clape:

Yes it was Dezzy especially as it's the weakest championship in many years.

We are so penny-pinching even though our income must be the highest in this league.

Still struggling to get my head round why we got rid of a couple of youngsters who had some championship experience & were probably earning peanuts & not replace them, especially as none of the current U23's are likely to play in Bielsa's team :?

Some strange decisions, I think Radz has done a great job, transformed the club, but had x amount he was willing to spend and won’t go a penny over, leaving us in a good position, but 10m into this squad and we’d be up I think. Frustrating.
