Retain. How much would it cost to replace him? However, he was overused last season due to the Saiz, injuries and the players MB couldn't bring himself to trust. In fact after Wigan he should have been rested. He should only be playing two games out of three this season.

Rating out of 10.

7.75

Retain and get him started on his coaching badges

As Irish Ian said he played too much last season and definitely needed resting at least the last 4 games, IMO part of the reason we didn’t make the play off final so needs to bring in a young understudy that will learn from Pablo a couple in the under 23s could do a good job of that

Rating for the season difficult as he was brilliant in most of the games but poor in a few and especially towards the end of the season when he should have been rested but technically the best player we’ve had at Elland Road for years so 9

Retain as one of midfielders next season

Undoubtedly our most technically gifted player since our relegation from the premiership who will need to be utilised more sparingly next season, hopefully our management don't show the same naivety as we witnessed in 2018/19

Rating out of 10 last season

Pablo Hernandez

Retain as one of midfielders next season? 100% retain. Great season for Pablo goals and assists, looked a little off the pace in the last few games but that was to be expected - although the calls to rest him are easier to make in hindsight as in reality until automatic promotion became a mathematical impossibility you have to pick your best players - as such Pablo had to play until and including the Villa match. No point selling we would get hardly anything, the player is also happy here, seems well liked/respected by his team mate and would be first name on the team sheet.

Retain as a bench player? Nope although hopefully he can be rested a little more although that depends a lot on the score in matches (in terms of being able to sub him off) and importance of matches as well as who else we have available.

Move on? Definitely not. If he was in his early 20s he would be our most valuable player, it is our good fortune that he is at an age where we wouldn't get an offer that would be tempting.

Rating out of 10 last season: 8.5 Would be a 9 but for the poor last few matches.

Agree with what others have said. If he is fit, he has to play, until we have someone else who can match his creativity. He's obviously still enjoying his football, and gives his all.

Retain.

Nobody gave more for the cause last season, he is our classiest player and we are lucky to have him.

Needs to be used more sparingly next season given his age though.

9/10 . . modern day legend.

Retain. Not sure if he is a 90 minute player. Tired towards the end of last season. Still a gifted game changer.

most frustrating player in the team for me.
can be brilliant one minute and clumsy in an other.
100% retain but as others said must be used more sparingly.

Pablo Hernandez

Pablo.

Still not quite on his game at the minute but showing little glimpses.

Finding playing a full 90 tough at 34, especially the way we play?

Not quite found his match fitness after his injuries?

Who is his ideal deputy? Shacks? Roberts?

Playing alongside Costa does it suit him?

Just wondering

Pablo has been overshadowed by the performances of Phillips and Klich of late and it's to be expected at his age.
He needs to be used sensibly to see the best of him and I see Shackleton as his natural successor.

Not sure anyone quite replces him - he has a unique vision imo. We do need the creativity to come from combinations of other players though. Hopefully Poveda will have a role to play in that, but I thought the same about Bogusz.

Agree Sara I wouldn't drop Hernandez, there are always moments of quality play from him even when Pablo is having a poor game

Not suggesting he is dropped although I have been kicking around the idea of having both Big Kev and Bamford in the 11 if Pablo isnt available.

A sort of 4-1-3-2 shape or 4 -1-3-1-1 with Klich in the centre of the 3 midfielders.

But Shacks seems closest straight swap.

Isnt the forum always quieter after we pick up 3 points :-D

I didnt ask, but thanks for telling me :)

Do think PH needs using more sparingly though and he hasnt hit the heights of previous seasons.
