Yes i would.....The Smiths debut album is a masterpiece & I love that song compared to one of Siouxsie's lesser works, I own both albums so I had to go with my heart

It would be 3-4 if Norfolk posted his vote up now so the result is far from conclusive atm

I may have to vote against another one of my own nominations should the songs are matched together in the next round

This is where you get me wondering 64 ?!?!?! :duno:
You clearly are passionate and extremely knowledgeable about your music and love a wide range of different genres, which must encompass dozens and dozens of different artists......and yet you nominate what, by your own admission is one of S&tB's "lesser works" as the best song over the 10yrs of the 80's :?

I nominated the Siouxsie song because I'd played the album Peepshow recently & Peek-A-Boo is the best track on the album imo. Most of S&B best songs have already been nominated. I'm not a big fan of the 80's although I enjoy the likes of The Clash, U2, R.E.M, New Order, Bobby Womack, Smiths, Pixies, etc, once again the majority of their best works has already been nominated. Tbh it's pointless nominating the Smiths or U2 as the majority despise them.

I know it will be Norfolk, the mention of Morrissey/Smiths is a turn-off for some.

Still one of UK's innovative bands of all-time

Three of their four albums made the No.2 spot with Meat Is Murder reaching No.1, not bad considering they never had a top five singles hit

I was working in Manchester when the music scene was really hot when the likes Joy Division/New Order were big. Marr/Joyce/Rourke use to buy their music in the store I was working in at that time

I think the 80s gets a bit of a bad rap musically, there was plenty of great music in a decade that took us from punk / disco through to the emergence of the indie scene as a real ‘thing’ and to rap / house - quite a musically vibrant decade for me, I struggle more with the latter end of the 90s and 00s tbh.

‘Alexa - play 80s indie” is one of my favourite phrases for the Echo I bought Mrs NW for Xmas

Thanks for the support 64 I know a Smiths nomination is never going to get you far but I had this track on a playlist the other day and just thought it is such a great, underplayed Smiths track I had to put it up. One of my great regrets never having seen the Smiths, saw Johnny Marr a couple of years ago who did some good renditions of Smiths tracks but not the same.

That must have been a great experience in the record store, hope you’ve got some nice signed albums tucked away, or were you too polite to bother them ;-)

Fortunately imo I've have seen the Smiths in Manchester & twenty years later Morrissey in Bridlington. The band members often use to visit the store as did many stars from from the world of theatre, music, sport & television so we just treated them with respect/professionalism just as we did with the rest of our clientele, so no signed album covers unfortunately Norfolk :(
