Cheers mate  so SR could end up with an average rating of less than 3 then ?

Certainly not looking good for an album that was hailed one of the greatest albums of all-time

Sorry 64 hadn't put my Bruce rating for Ian's pick.

Tried, but only :star: :star: I'm afraid Ian. Never been a Springsteen fan

I will, then, if nobody else has yet. One you'll probably know, and one you might not:

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden

Calexico - Algiers

Bit of background on the choice:

I only discovered Talk Talk a couple of years ago. They probably passed me by in the 80s because of their poppier roots. The last three albums saw them moving in an ever more experimental direction. Spirit of Eden is the one I've listened to the most. I won't preempt anyone's reaction to it, but it's a unique album, and probably one of my top five.

I came across Calexico in 2003, at the time of Feast of Wire, when I was broadening my tastes into what was then called alt country. Calexico are more diverse than many, incorporating latin sounds and styles, jazz, and experimental soundscapes. I was tempted to choose that album as being more representative of the range of what they do, but Algiers has superseded it as my most played. I'll attempt to explain why I think it's great when you've all had a chance to listen.

I've drifted in and out of Calexico, nothing that grabbed hold but I've never listened to an entire album.

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

well......

to me (and I listened to it twice to be sure) this was "jingly jangly" wishy washy and bland.

All the tracks seemed to merge into each other seamlessly and it all just sounded like 1 long track.
the drummer only seems to know 3 different beats, and I don't think the singer could garner any enthusiasm even with a V2 rocket up his arse..

So this is not going to be played by Hector again..

On a positive.... not as bad as the Counting Crows so

I find the albums tend to work as a whole. Algiers, particularly, for me, has an emotional journey which develops through the album. Many of their albums also have instrumental 'interludes' between the songs, which develop the atmosphere, but might sound strange on their own.

Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the edge of town..

This album should come with a safety warning........

Do not listen whilst operating heavy machinery or driving......

1st track started..... quite good, and then he started singing?? by the end of the track I was reaching for the espresso coffee, as I was driving........ hard to stay awake..

It continued in the same sort of way and then....... I had to stop at some traffic lights going into Salisbury, and it was track 5 a slow one.....
3 toots from the horn of the car behind woke me up enough to set off, and the next thing I was aware of was entering Wilton....

Soon I was at Tisbury just as the album ended.....

To be fair... the songs were all really good, and well written, just someone else needs to sing them..

Springsteen could be the cure for insomiacs the world over.......

The band should perhaps sack Bruce and get someone who has a vocal range ( my puppy has a bigger vocal range than Bruce.......)
and perhaps someone who's idea of pitch change is not to increase the volume.
