2017 start vs 2018

Post by LevLeeds »

Not sure if anyone saw this but interesting stats never the less.

IMO the start this year was much trickier than last years. Preying to continue the unbeaten start tonight. We have to lose at some point tho, this is the championship after all just not tonight :strong:

Another comparison

17: I was warning against a collapse coming as it seemed a highly artificial position
18: I'm not issuing the same warning, this is sustainable. That's not to say we will get promoted, anything can happen, but this just feels right compared to last season which was fools gold

I agree with faaip.
We've already played Stoke, Derby, Swansea and Middlesborough, four teams tipped to be in the promotion shake up and not lost any of them.
This season's squad has more strength in depth although it's being tested to the limit at the moment with the spate of injuries.
I'm a bit surprised MB risked several squad members in the U23's yesterday when we have a game tonight especially when a squad member (Shaughnessy) limped off injured. It sends a clear message that the team will be unchanged from Saturday.
However, based on what I've seen so far I will be both shocked and incredibly disappointed if we don't finish in the top six.

I think faaip's right too in that we've a more sustainable squad and manager - hope we can get past the injuries and the dry spell, although we did score on Saturday.

Morning All,
Agree with being happier with this Seasons start.
Under TC, team were bullied against the likes of Cardiff, Millwall etc. and imo would have lost the games against Swansea, Boro & Millwall this Season.
The overall quality of our football dropped for periods against these teams, but they battled through to get great results including late goals in Swansea & Millwall games.
Here's hoping that we play well this evening.
But more importantly, get the 3 points.

Yes, the performances are better and we didnt get bullied by Millwall for a change, albeit not a great result.
I am a little more cautious as we dont know if the team has the legs for this type of play and the playing staff to do it. Also,
1 goal in 5 hours of football is concerning too as teams are studying our play and organising. Boro in particular.
I am hope i am 100% wrong!

Reasons why we are much stronger this season

Bielsa.
Players are as fit as a butchers dog (when not injured)
Peacock-Farrell
Ayling's back
Cooper & Pontus look much more comfortable
Phillips & Berardi's new impressive roles
A proper LB in Douglas
Klich
Roofe's all round game/impressive form
Better loan signings
U23's kids in the first-team squad
Fixture list start much tougher
Achieving points when we go behind in games
Scoring goals from all over the park
Defending much more assured
Passing/possession much improved, move the ball quicker & quick on the break. Better football all round
Stood up to Millwall/Boro's bullying style of football

Two low score draws v Boro' & Millwall doesn't concern me

Preston reserves v Leeds reserves in a cup game was a no no game for me in our previous five hours of play, I prefer to include the Norwich game in there where we bashed the canaries 0-3 :-D

My judgement may not be so good if we don't score goals tonight :(
