The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Fri 3rd Aug)
Good Morning Everyone
Matthew Pennington is set to come back to Leeds Utd on a season long loan.
Bielsa has let it be known that he is happy with Jansson and Cooper at centre back, but would like Pennington as a squad player.
6ft 1 Pennington would certainly add more height to our defence.
Thoughts?
Simon Grayson has been speaking to BBC 5 Live about Leeds promotion hopes:-
“I go back to Leeds quite a lot and I speak to a lot of friends who are really excited about his appointment, but they are still wary that this could go one way or the other,” he said.
“This could go like the Wolves model did last year and it becomes a huge success and Leeds are back in the Premier League where everybody in the city wants them to be. Or it could go horribly wrong and he [Marcelo Bielsa] walks out and leaves the club.
“This season they’ve invested more money than they ever have done probably since the Premier League days, and that’s why it could go one way or the other.”
Accoding to the media, Leeds are preparing an 8m offer for Citeh versatile defender Jason Denayer.
Galatasaray have been closely linked with the 23 yo this summer as they look to re-sign him on a season-long loan.
Denayer spent last season with the murdering bastwards, helping them lift their 21st Turkish Super Lig title.
However, Bielsa's relationship with Pep (first name terms) wil certainly help our cause.
Danayer would be a massive coup for us. He's easily as good as Jansson.

Good morning Matt
If Bielsa has made it known that he is happy with Cooper & he intends to bring back peg-leg Pennington why would we be interested in signing Deneyar who actually seem a cut above peg-leg & captain chaos imo !

Don't mind Pennington returning, we need bodies at CD at the very least and he's decent on the ball and can pick a pass. As it stands what happens if PJ (yet to play) or Coop get injured in game?.
Denayer sounds interesting so hopefully something in that. I don't see it as either or.
Simon Grayson tells us something we already know so pointless interview really

Agree with Faaip on Pennington, we need another body at CB, not a stretch of the imagination to see one CB suspended and one injured....leaves us woefully short. Pennington looked decent at times so hopefully MB can develop the good and cut out the bad.
Saw the Denayer links yesterday - not seen him play but seems highly regarded, we would be starting to look like a strong first XI if we could find another strong defensive partner for Pontus. Squad still looks so thin there and up top though.

You need 4 in the squad at CB, Denayer and Pennington as number 4 makes sense. Unless Denayer is to replace Jansson that is.

Morning Leon, there's more going on behind the scenes than anybody knows, not even Phil Hay.
In years gone by, we would hear about incoming transfers days, if not weeks before, now, we'd be lucky to hear on the day they sign.
Things have been hushed up.
I reckon we'll see a big incoming transfer.
It won't be Woods though. Looks like he is off to Swansea.

Morning Norfolk, Bielsa must have seen something good in Cooper. If the gaffer wanted a player, I think we'd go for it.NorfolkWhite wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 8:07 am Agree with Faaip on Pennington, we need another body at CB, not a stretch of the imagination to see one CB suspended and one injured....leaves us woefully short. Hi EB
Wow Simon, talk about hedging and covering your bets. I bet one of your two predictions (success or no success for Leeds) comes true.

Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

Just using this as an example for when people suggest that height is the be all and end all when it comes down to aggression/bullying and intimidation. Pennington is 6ft 1 but had no real physical presence, he had no real strength and could easily be bullied off the ball. Don't really recall him being any good in the air either and to me looked more like a boy than a man.Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 7:09 am 6ft 1 Pennington would certainly add more height to our defence.
Cibicki, 6ft, and Grot 6ft 4, hardly imposed themselve and intimidated the opposition either.
You have the ball, you look up to see if a pass is on. An opposition player is coming in to tackle you. Who would you rather it was
a) Pennington 6ft 1
b) Cibicki 6ft
c) Grot 6ft 4
d) Joey Barton 5ft 9

By the same token I'd want to see Barton mark my 6'2 centre forward in the box ....

Morning Weasel, it wouldn't be Barton. He doesn't play anymore....weasel wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 9:13 am Just using this as an example for when people suggest that height is the be all and end all when it comes down to aggression/bullying and intimidation. Yeah, I take your point, but what about set pieces?

If our fans are happy with the possible signing of Pennington, once again we are settling for mediocrity
