Leeds U23/U18s

Post by Cjay »

Just watched my 1st game.

2-2 draw with Birmingham.

Can see the style of play is similar to the first team, play out from the back, be prepared to sit back and wait for the break.

They also share another similarity with the 1st team, cant pass for toffee.

Standout players were imo 2 of the Birmingham lads, dont know there names.

Kamil Miazek the goalkeeper, he did well, made some good saves and was quick off his line.

Oriol Rey did ok, and Alex Machucha also was at least always looking for the ball. Olie Sarkic is a tricky customer and was unlucky not to score.
goals for 2 of the new lads.

But, none of them are close to being ready for the first team unfortunately, not this season and probably not next.

Nobody really stood out for us enough to suggest they should be with the 1st team squad.

And, i could hear the U23 manager Carlos Corberan, he seemed to be constantly yelling in Spanish. Which isnt odd as he is Spanish, but surely a lot of them lads dont speak Spanish?

They did ok, but nothing or nobody really exciting to report :(

Goalie did the best, in fact id have him ahead of Lonners.

"Fuming tonight, went to watch @LUFC Under 23s v Birmingham. Leeds is losing its identity, as all I could hear was Spanish been spoken by players and manager!!! We are a club that has over years and years brought through quality players. But what I witnessed is players lacking."

Grot in his rightful place getting to grips with English football in the U23's

Tom Pearce looks a decent player from the minutes I've seen of the game

Have to say our U23's looked comfortable on the ball & passed it with more efficiency than our first team have done in recent weeks

Funny all the fans were wrapped up in their coats, woolly hats, scarves with one guy stood there watching the game in his shorts

Easier to pass with confidence etc when you have an early lead though - but hopefully things will really start to click with the U23s and U18s though and the players will prove Orta to be a talent spotter supreme.

Pearce did really well 2nd half.

Bits i saw of the 1st half, Jack Clarke played really well, beat there fullback on a regular basis.

Rey stood out, very calm on the ball.

And Machuca, perhaps get him training with the 1st team more, let Pablo mentor him.

Watched quite a bit of this today and young Tom Pearce looks very very promising. Looks so much at ease with the ball, like Lewis Cook used to. Hope this kid gets a run out with the first team before the end of the season as he looked the real deal, albeit its only 1 game.

Does Halme play CB fot the u23's normally?

If so could be a bench warmer tomorrow.

I would expect Halme to be int he bench because we have Cooper & Berardi banned and Shaugnessy and Ayling injured so apart from PJ and Pennington (who are both injury prone) no other central defenders in the first team squad

goals for the u18s, new boys shone.

Kun got a goal and an assist, Edmondson got 3 goals.

Actually Kun looks like he may have took the corner for the first as well, so 2 assists.

That Edmonson looks a big lad for a 16 year old, tall and frame wise - reminds me a bit of the young Rooney who was a man in a child's body.

Great to see the togetherness of the team with the celebration for the first goal as it looked like everyone bar the keeper joined in the celebration - great to see especially given the mix of races/languages etc. This for me is the huge bonus of us bringing players in at this young age is because they acclimatise and get to know their teammates so that if they make it into the first team they are more likely to succeed than if we imply went out and bought them aged 23 and threw them straight into the first team. These lads will be able to speak english fluently by the time they are in the first team, will be used to english conditions and the physical side of the game and will also likely know some of their fellow first team players having already played with them in the U18s or U23s or trained with them.

u18s have 4 wins out of the last 5, they sit 3rd in there league.U23s sit 7th but unbeaten in there last 5, 3 wins 2 draws.
