Hockaday gone? Who would we replace him with?

Post by Twiggster »

Phil Hay ‏@PhilHayYEP
Multiple sources telling me that Hockaday will be sacked on the back of today's result. Be amazed if he's here for Bradford.

Adam Pope ‏@APOPEY
#lufc Not confirmed but David Hockaday's Leeds United tenure looks precarious. I understand Cellino very upset after 4-1 defeat at Watford.

PLEASE make it so!

Would be a good appointment given what he did under his tenure at Stoke and his experience but the key to any 'managerial' appointment would be how much ground Cellino would be prepared to give on control as I'd expect most managers worth their salt would want more than is currently given to Hockaday.

This would lead me to think we'd be looking at a foreign coach rather than an English one - is there a list of previous coaches under Cagliari anywhere and their success in the job we can look at?

Just found this trivia about our Dave on Wikipedia:

"At the 2014 Comic Con panel, Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stated that Dave Hockaday taught him how to sword fight" :duno: :duno:

Quote David Hockaday:
"We're trying to turn this big ship around which is going to take time but moments like that don't help."

David is laboring under under the misapprehension that he is steering a big ship.
He is in actual fact in a very small row boat crammed with press ganged sailors
who don't know their place, don't understand each other, and who he has no control over.

His policy is to throw overboard any sailor who seems to be doing well, and have four
of his men in the middle of the boat pulling on one oar which sends the small row boat
into a spin of uncontrollable splashes, and causes havoc and panic in the rest of the crew.

Delusional is the only word for it.

When he was appointed, just like everyone else I was prepared to give him a chance, so I said nowt about him.
I know it is only competitive games, but there is no improvement. I know it takes time for new players to gel, but it is so easy to get dragged into a relegation frame of mind. I think Cellio felt it was the right thing to do in taking on a British coach, so now he has to get rid and do what he wants to do and recruit his own choice of coach, no matter who it is, or what nationality they are.
Time to get rid Massimo!

Hockaday gone? Who would we replace him with?

Post by Martyn »

As I said on the Watford thread, none of this is Hockaday's fault and it is wrong to blame him. With his track record of a 32% win percentage in 4 and a bit conference seasons he is performing pretty much the way you would expect.

Not his fault he was offered the job, and given that he was unemployed he would have been stupid to turn it down (and his benefits would have been withdrawn if he had done).

The blame lies not with Hockaday but the man who chose him.

Cellino uncontactable tonight so no clarity until tomorrow. Players have been called in for an unscheduled warm-down in the morning. #lufc

Why appoint someone who, from the outset looked sure to fail? Either because of his ability or the fact the fans didn't get behind him. So if he does get sacked what a waste of pre season and championship games. Dont know why we cant just get some one good for once.

Not sure about Sherwood. In my opinion he did well at Spurs but he may not be the 'Yes' man MC wants. Pulis, would probably sort it and make us stronger but style of play wouldn't be great.

Jimmy Floyd doing a decent job at Antwerp but may be a risk as no experience at this level. Di Matteo is still free, would be a real sign of intent to sign a champs league winner but cant see that happening.

The cheap option would be Mackay considering the goings on with him recently!!!
What kind of music do you usually have here?

Oh, we got both kinds. Country....and Western.

None of those you mention are liable to be Yes men. Expect another unknown.

Which decent manager/coach is going to come to LUFC right now knowing that Celliono is a control freak who wants to dictate which players we sign ?!

Lets face it that's why he got Hockaday, who was clearly out of hes depth from day one but he was what Cellino wants - a yes man. For that reason, I would expect Festa to be next to join the circus !
