Ones closed one is open, you have to remember they are high level athletes with little things making a difference all that sugar and caffeine will have an effect on rehydration, I no I used to be weighed before and after games to gage what fluid intake you need after a game and a couple of cans if coke isn't something on the list! I'd be worried if there wasn't empty bottles, on a hot day you'd be looking at having at least 4 litres post match. Anyway just an observation, it wouldn't make much difference but top level sport is all fine margins

Sorted now! Photo was taken by Dewsy - and you don't often see him without a can of coke on matchdays. He probs put them down to take the pic.

A gym specialist whose regimes I've been following says post workout is the best time to have sugar as your body will have sweated a lot of sugar out.
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

That is poor advice, if you like coke and want it per work out is the best time to have it to get the boost off it. Post work out you would want to have put in at least a 3 hour stint for that amount of sugar, that is if your big into your training and nutrition, if your at the gym for general fitness a can of coke after a work out isnt any worse than any other time of the day.

I love this forum sometimes! Where else could a game report turn into a nutritional discussion?

Paddy - 7 made two top draw saves first half his kicking was dodgy.
Kept us in the game.

Pelts - 6 what a wank3r.
Did run his flank well, but come on lads and lasses he is error prone and makes simple stuff look impossible.

Lees - 7 keeps getting better and better.

Pearce - 7 looks a better player under egg. Almost a towering CB.

Warnock - 6 did ok .

Green - 7 his effort and passing were mostly great today, seems to have a 5 minute spell per game where he screw up simple stuff. I called him a crack head for one of his passes, but don't think he heard me.

Thong - 6 all the way up in east stand upper looks like Murphy.....

Murphy - 7 his passing is good, carves ball switching passes, even had a few pops at goal. Good signing.

Reg 6 - jumps about a lot and went on some good runs. Dire attempt at a shot in the second half.

Hunt 6 - shows a little more quality than some of the other players. Runs about a lot. Can tell he is experienced.

Ross 7 did what Ross does and even scored.

Poleon is going to score again for us, he is not afraid to have a run and take a pop, came close second half.

Nutter bloke behind me 7 - drunk, and ranting all game, told the stewards in no uncertain terms he had paid 28 quid and will do as he pleases.

Diamond formation is going to be risky. We are open on the flanks and invite them on us and compress at the back when they get in our half. Are full backs sometimes have time and punt a s**t ball down the wing, and left or right back who can leap will deal with this easily. Can see it taking half a dozen games before it beds in. We break with NO pace whatsoever. f**k me it was like slow motion.

We got a little lucky today, first half they played with feck all passion, we are very rigid egg has them drilled well.

Pearce under egg is looking better.
WE''RE LEEDS UNITED, WE''LL NEVER BE DEFEATED!

Paul Green was warnobs best signing.

I went to the game and took a bottle of aldi lemon and lime with me. With it being a warm day felt very dehydrated afterwards and had a banging headache. Just had a brew and a Wispa and beginning to feel better.

As for the game, just in case anyone has mistakenly clicked onto this thread expecting some sort of match report, I was a bit disaapointed with how subdued the crowd was. It seemed to match the game which had a friendly feel about it with not much closing down or tackling going on although likely the heat was to blame. I was delighted with Murphy. He has great feet and very rarely lost possession and was unlucky not to score in the first half. He won't appeal to all as he isn't an all action type of midfielder and has an almost lazy looking style about him (perhaps the same people who berated Howson will get their knives out for him) but is exactly the sort of player we have needed for years. A possession player that you could stick a Barca short on and he wouldn't look out of place. If the other players can find space this guy will find them.

Defensively I am very concerned. Lees and Pearce are both allright but both need a no nonsense centreback next to them to guide them and keep them switched on. Don't know enough about Mills but we desperately need a centreback.

I heard reports today that Tonge was good for us.

Either way, I think once Byram and Austin return for Peltier and Tonge, we'll be a stronger team. I'd take armband off Peltier in the mean time, see if relieving that pressure relaxes him a little. Give to an experienced head like Green or Warnock.

New CB signing is a must I think, Kenny kept us in the game but by all accounts we were the ones putting on the pressure, the defence should be able to cope with the odd attack, especially when our team has the majority of the ball.

Either way, Brighton will be up in the top 6 again, so by all accounts a great win.

Thanks for the sarcastic reply, top man, the coke debate started from a pic twiggs posted after the game of two of our players next to a open can of coke, and I was questioning there post match recovery regime which is quite important regards team preformance, which effects team results and some might find interesting!

What would be your suggested after match drink Dezzy as I play Sunday League (mornings) and often get headaches in the afternoon. I struggle to eat anything pre-game (try to have porridge or bananas) and usually just have a bit of lucozade at half time. I have quite often simply gone for a soft drink (coke) after games in the presumably mistaken belief that it would be better than an alcoholic drink.

You'd want to weigh yourself per and post game and for every pound you lose take on a least a litre per pound, everybody is different, but I'd recommend coconut water or cherry juice as two brilliant hydrators if water is too bland try keep sugar and caffeine to a minimum match days. It is a chore to drink so much but if your getting headaches you need to drink plenty. As for per match nice sized meal 3 hours before, if it morning have porridge for that meal with nuts seeds and raisins? Or fruit salad and yougurt and drink plenty with a oat cake and peanut butter or fruit closet to the time?
Anyway I don't want to take away from the match reports but I am involved in strength and conditioning and only waffling on and trying to help

Ordinary performance. Defending poor down the left. Pelts tons better down the right. First 15 we were shocking. We got better but Kenny saved us 3 times. Arguably motm but that accolade for me goes to Murphy. Everything a signing should be (the antithesis of Diouf). Young, loads of potential, energy, imaginative and will sell for more than he cost. Bowyer, Howson, Murphy - the priceless ability to get ahead of the ball. 10k stay aways returned. Had they stayed we may have had a 2 million pound striker. Sorry to be sanctimonious GW but that's the reality. Staying away costs. Fact.

Bates cost us by alienating the majority of fans. Proved today. Fans stayed away under that despicable excuse for an owner and returned in their tens of thousands today, to celebrate his removal.
Fans staying away didn't cost us. Bates did - in SO many ways.

What a lovely way to start the season off with a win & a hard-working performance to match..... McDermott has obviously deployed a game plan which our players carried out credibly.... ER was packed & the whole place was buzzing in anticipation with excitement. MOT made the hairs on your back tingle today :sing:
Another noticeable change folks we have changed dugouts, the Leeds one is nearest the kop this season

Kenny 9 - Four excellent saves including a point blank save in the dying minutes which was unbelievable won us the three points. MOTM
Peltier 7
Lees 7
Pearce 7
Warnock 7
Green 8
Tonge 7
Murphy 8 - Great home debut from the kid who looks worth the £1m fee spent, can only improve as he settles into the Leeds team. A Bowyer type run into the box, then proceeded to play pitter-patter with ball before placing the ball into the net off the post i think
McCormack 7 - took his goal well
Varney 7
Hunt 6

Poleon - added more direct play upfront, unlucky not to score as the Brighton keeper flew across the goal like a seagull to make a fine save only for Green to follow up the rebound & blast his shot high into the kop

Smith - big presence in the box, his knock down set up Murphy's winner

Thank you McDermott for inspiring desire, confidence & commitment into players which is basically Warnock's team
