Leeds United 1, Birmingham City 4

Post by YorkshireSquare »

Leeds United 1 (McCormack 19)
Birmingham City 4 (Zigic 30, 61, 64, 68)

Becchio and White returned to the starting eleven in place of Pugh and Forsell. A promising start for Leeds saw three good chances fall to Becchio, the clearest of which he slotted wide. Birmingham came into the game after 15 minutes and forced a good save from Lonergan. Leeds however took the lead on 19 minutes when Ross McCormack, who had been lively, broke and finished clinically.

Zigic levelled the scores on the half hour mark, escaping his marker he headed into the back of the net past a helpless Lonergan. The game went fairly flat for the remainder of the first half with neither side having a clear cut chance and went in level at half time.

The start of the second half was fairly uneventful until the Birmingham keeper was forced into a good save from a 30 yard Becchio screamer on 55 minutes. The game livened up after that but unfortunately it was Birmingham who took the lead when Zigic scored on 61 minutes.

Leeds fell apart for that and Zigic completed his hat-trick 3 minutes later heading past Lonergan once again. He added to his already impressive tally scoring a fourth on 68 minutes before being substituted a minute later.

Leeds failed to make any clear cut chances in the final 20 minutes. Final score Leeds 1, Birmingham 4. What started off as a positive first half soon turned into the usual lacklustre performance and defensive errors. Any positives to take? Not really, just a hope that the next game can't be worse than this.
