Re: Birmingham City v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Nketiah Starts, Bamford Out!
Strange game only watched the last 30 minutes but always felt we could score again after Birmingham repeatedly equalised. Certainly worrying that we have conceded as many in the last 4 matches as we had done in the first 21 and hopefully we can sort that out. It may be that the subtle tweaks made by Bielsa has seen us become more potent but also more vulnerable. I felt before the season started that we were going to be Keeganesque, scoring 100+ goals but equally conceding bucketloads but was pleasantly surprised at how resolute we were defensively and at the same time a little disappointed at our wastefulness up front.
Hopefully the Cardiff and Birmingham games are just strange blips and we can get back to being strong again.

Birmingham fans chanted "Leeds are falling apart again" 3 times and went home with nothing and are 22 points behind us. Oops

So many highs & lows in 96 minutes Swannie, I was relieved when the whistle was blown.
Great for the neutrals but as a purist I'd rather see us 1-0 or 2-1

It is so weird, we have conceded 20 goals this season. 10 in the first 21 games and 10 in the last 4.

Teams play for corners, free-kicks & throw-ins with one thing in mind, to pump the ball into our box in the air.
I wonder why

Teams are frightened of us and too concerned about putting 10 men behind the ball. It would be great to see more teams come at us cause we will rip them apart, we’ll stem the flow of goals again. But a defender is important just to fill in when injuries and suspensions kick in
I realised I was dyslexic when I went to a toga party dressed as a goat..

According to the stats, every shot on target today - from both teams - found the back of the net.
In a nine-goal game.
Incredible.
Or am I wrong. Does the OG count as a shot on target?

I agree our defence will come good again. These last few games have been an anomaly directly opposite to how we have performed defensively for the vast majority of time.dezzy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 9:13 pm Teams are frightened of us and too concerned about putting 10 men behind the ball. I too would never object to us strengthening the team, but we have to be realistic too. A player who is a first choice defender at a club that is doing well won't join us to sit on the bench. Nor will any other top-line player.

Naw Leon... this was one game that you got your money's worth.
THe highs and lows of that game were worth every penny.
Rescued from the depths of despair and transported to the
heights of ecstasy by the victory. You could not wish for a better outcome.

I don't think OGs count as shots on target. I seem to remember stats in the past (not necessarily for us) showing no shots on target in a 1-0 OG result.John in Louisiana wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 9:22 pm According to the stats, every shot on target today - from both teams - found the back of the net.

Waving to four of his family/friends whom were sat three seats away from me.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 6:33 pm His name went up and he looked at the ground then turned and seemed to be looking at the away end applauding them and waving at them.
May be nothing but didnt look like the usual reaction to being subbed
Well if we have any sense we will have the deal done and dusted in the first week of January.

No coincidence since Dallas was moved into midfield & replaced by Alioski in the LWB position we've conceded those ten goals. Also missed Bamford at set-pieces for his defensive headers.
If Roberts is fit he should start in midfield with Dallas returning to LB for the West Brom game
Alioski should never play in that position again, loses possession of the ball far too easily & goes missing. Poor defender!

At half-time Birmingham City paid tribute to their fans who had passed away during 2019, their names were shown on the big screen with the announcer crediting their names to applause from both sets of fans.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 9:08 pm You're alive Leon! Absolutely, bring back the 1-0s!
I commented to my friends around me at the end of the game "I reckon they could add several more to that list of names"

Agree all we’ll get in at CB is a young player with potential, I’d take that though, we need numbers at CB, Ayling and Phillips are not an option as we are then weaker in other areas.HarryofOz wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 9:24 pm I agree our defence will come good again.
