Only Shackleton has made a real impact, hopefully his injury hasn't curtailed his progress
A slimline squad is what we need... remember the battle Saiz had with his waistline :)

Haaland gone to Dortmund. A shame he couldn't wait 6 months to see what happens with us.

We need to replace Clarke and Nketiah and also we need an experienced CB who will calm everyone down. I don't trust Cooper or Berardi when the season reaches its climax. Scott Dann would be my shout.

Most of us have wanted an extra cb for 18 months, it wont happen :(

Phil thinks we will replace Clarke, Eddie (if he goes) MB alluded to those 2 being replaced today.

And a back up keeper if Kiko gets done.

I do find the club/MB's attitude to the cb situation bizarre.

White and Coops have and do struggle in the air, big strikers (like today) give both of them issues.

Worrying Ben White is looking less assured, cant afford him tl have a dip

Great that Phil thinks we’ll replace Clarke, hopefully with someone who can play through the middle. The CB situation is bizzare

Patrick Roberts likely to be recalled by Man City as he's had no game time at Norwich. He'd be a class replacement for Clarke.

Not a bad shout that, imagine we have a good relationship with City because of Harrison and of course Pep's love for MB.

Remember Roberts was going to be the mext big thing, not really happened since his last Celtic loan but has talent ?

From reading he is primarily a right winger but has played as a 10.

Id be happy with that tbf (based on no facts at all just your statement )

Can't judge how good a player is playing in the SPL, for the most part it's lower Lg 1 upper Lg 2 level, especially playing for Celtic.

I think we'll need a couple of seasons at least in the top flight for a signing of that quality. I'm wondering if that's his intent, Dortmund is a great club for young players and it would make sense to spend a few seasons there before he hits his prime. And when he does, gods willing, we'll have had some investment to be able to go for him.

Phil Hay says we are in for potentially 3 players in January.

Nketiah replacement
Clarke replacement
A back up goalie for Meslier if Kiko gets banned (he will).

I forsee a problem.

Unless we buy some players which Radz wouldn't in the summer (still amazed he got away with that without much fuss).

Then we will go over the loan limit.

Unbelievable really that we already did that once making one of the loans pointless.

But.

5 loan spots.
White, Harrison, Costa and presumably Meslier are musts, no option with those 4.

So we want 3 new signings but only 1 loan spot?

Unless we are going to be incompetent again someone will need to be permanent.

In fact 2 of them?

We have a loan to buy for Costa, that could be one work around. Bit down now, rest later on would make him non loan. We maybe able to sign Harrison too if we can reach an agreement with City. We also have a buy clause for Messlier, we've had a good look in training now and I doubt he's that expensive. I'd also make a cheeky offer to make White permanent

We can hold more than 5 loans anyway it's just we can only have 5 in the matchday squad. Clarke was an appeasement move probably cost us nothing to see if he was a difference maker for us.

We don't need a Clarke replacement and who's to say we don't pay for a Che Adams or AN Other

As far as Clarke replacement is concerned what are we looking at RSM, AMF, #10? When Nketiah goes back we will need a second striker, personally I'd go for one that makes Bamford a bench player but if he's going to back up Paddy he's going to need to be cheap or a kid on loan from the prem and we're back to square 1 developing him to fit the system.

Imo and hopefully the Clarke replacement would be more in the Kent mould.

Not him clearly but versatile and able to play anywhere across the front 3, that we do need.

We do need another striker but any Clarke replacement or Eddie has to be better then what we have or we will be in the same boat, MB wont use them.

Squad fillers are pointless, loans should make the difference.

Radz will need to spend this January to make that happen.

We should be preparing for the premiership this January

There are quite a few positions we need more quality in, now is the time to fill at least one of them

We need a CB, but we ain’t getting one!

If we sign one player in January I’d get someone who can play No.10 and up front.

Find the clubs attitude to a new cb really bizarre.

I do blame MB for this, he talks about "finding solutions".

Has it not dawned on him yet that we don't have a solution in the squad or it would have been found by now?

Still think MB is a bit naive in terms of the Championship.

You cant just pass and press your way out of it, no system in the world can stop them, at some point you will face them and you need the players to deal with them.

Also feel its due to the lack of authority in the side that Kiko feels the need to come for everything.

Its been a problem for 18months by MB's own admission.

What have we done to fix it apart from sell our most aerial strong cb?

So frustrating.

Bielsa as said a few times about the lack of height in certain games from teams that bombard us with balls into the box, is something we don't cope with very well, Ayala £500 000 ?
Ayala,White Cooper as a back 3, wouldn't be too shady.

Who we should get or who we could get is a moot point.
We are constrained in what we can do by the financial fair play rules.
I think that is why we did not go overboard in the summer transfer window
and the winter transfer window is no different. I don't know how we can
expect some amazing deals being negotiated. I have resigned myself
to the fact that nothing will happen during January. There will be rumours
to raise hopes, but in the end they will all come to naught. This is not being
pessimistic. It is just a reality check. Reinforcements if any will come from
the U23... Too young I hear you say... tell that to 16 year old Jude Bellingham

Thats the weird thing.

MB has said it himself, we lack height, we struggle with set pieces, we have since he arrived and he has openly said it.

Its almost as if MB is so blind to his ideals he refuses to accept that somethings he cant fix just by coaching.
