The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tue 18th June)

Post by Ellandback1 » Tue Jun 18, 2019 7:05 am

Good Morning Everyone

Statistics released by the Home Office show more Manchester United fans were involved in racially related arrests than anyone else in the football league!

Data collected over the last four season show a total of 27 Old Trafford fans were locked up for racist behaviour.

Alarmingly, Leeds (along with Millwall) were joint second with 15 arrests.

Leicester, Chelsea, Barnsley, West Ham, Sunderland, Boro and Citeh all got a mention!

Whilst Manchester United can at least boast of crowds of 70k, thus making the percentage of idiots miniscule, Leeds with average crowds of 32k do not have that excuse!

Leeds were quick to release the following statement: “Racism will not be tolerated by our club or by the vast majority of our community and fanbase.”

“We are committed with the help of the FA, EFL, Kick it Out and police to do anything we can to eradicate this vile issue from the game.”

Is anyone surprised at the lack of arrests at football matches that are racially aggravated?

Is there an acceptance that (some) football fans will shoot their mouths off when drunk?

Is a lot of racist behaviour still ignored by security / Police?

Vitesse Arnhem and Hearts are bidding to take Jay-Roy Grot on loan next season.

The colossal 21yo forward netted 6 times from 33 appearances for Dutch outfit VVV Venlo last term.

Anyone got any claims to fame?

Which famous people have you met?

Did you have the guts to go over and say something!!!

Famous people I met.

I sold Brett Ormarods house. This was just as he was going out on loan to Leeds.

I bumped into Gordon Strachan. Had a great conversation with him about Leeds. (This was when he was Manager of Southampton). I asked him when was he going to take the hot seat at ER. He told me I had to be joking. (Leeds at the time were in termoil). He made it clear with the state of Leeds, he would go anywhere near them.

For a year or so my parents lived next door to Gordon Strachan. He has bought it from Kris Akabussi (the runner).

I bumped into Shane Warne in a lift in the block of apartments where I live.

The Hampshire wicket keeper at the time lived in the Penthouse. I said 'you're Shane Warne'. He said, yeah, I know...

You’ll never stop the idiots mouthing off, it’s also not really a good idea to even confront that now a days pass it to the stewards or police

I’d like to see Grot stay and given a chance this coming season as I think theres a player in there and he’d give us a plan B which we often lacked last season

Had Kalvin at ours for tea a few times but he wasn’t famous then I think he was around 14 or 15 at the time

Bumped into a few Leeds players over the years in the city centre but one of the strangest was Eirik Bakka coming out of the toilets at Trowel Services, I think 2004 or 5 I wanted to say something but it felt a bit awkward so I just smiled and nodded

Morning All,

I honesty don't think they will ever stamp out racism completely in society let alone at football matches.
There will always be people who use the colour of someone's skin as an excuse to shout abuse. Pathetic people with no lives.

Jay-Roy Grot should be given pre season to prove his worth to Bielsa.
I do wonder how he will cope with the tough training regime being such a big lad.

I bumped into Freddie Flintoff on holiday a few years ago when he had just started filming for his 'Lord of the fries' series 1.
We were at Gothland down by the train station and there he was just standing around.
I walked up and asked if I could have a photo with him and he was great and he told me about the new series.

I'm actually surprised it's so few. 15 out of more than 30k average over 4 seasons is miniscule. I'm inclined to believe that this is probably the correct proportion in reality, no doubt there are some who get away with it but I've seen a few 'racist' incidents that were actually no such thing (you don't need proof to get the police involved these days), so like most things the truth will lie in the middle.

Someone will always find a reason to dislike someone else, whether race, religion, culture, nation, yadda yadda. If it's not this then it'll be something else.

Not too fussed what happens to him unless it's saving us wages or giving us a fee. I can't see him involved in our season in any capacity either way.

My 17 year old self bumped into Alice Cooper in a tiny book shop in York. Absolutely cracking bloke, stuck around to chat to me and my mate at length, nice as pie.

Famous people I've spoken to over the years

Sportsmen

Billy Bremner - as a kid shook hands with BB & JG, Billy ruffled my hair, when I got home I said to my mum I'll never wash my hair again
Johnny Giles
John Charles
Paul Reaney - a very funny man
Mick Jones
Allan Clarke
Paul Marriner - slimeball, had the misfortune of escorting these three & one other out of the store I was managing due to their drunkard behaviour
John Wark
Kevin Beattie

Bobby Robson - lovely chat with Bobby on a underground tube, a true gentleman

Steve Davis - one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting, loved his soul music

Musicians

Johnny Marr (Smiths)
Andy Rourke (Smiths)
Mike Joyce (Smiths)
Bill Nelson (Bebop Deluxe)
Roy Webber (Wally)
Russ Conway - Strangely Russ use to order all his own recordings off me when I had my music store
Lulu

Actors/Actresses

Anne Kilbride ('Deirdre Barlow' Corrie) - one of my regular customers & lovely lady too, surprisingly only bought classical music which she adored
Sally Dynevor (Corrie)
Helen Worth (Corrie)
Bonnie Langford - queue jumper & one of those "do you know who I am" characters

Gluten free ale pie  errr I will pass on that thanks :)

The chicken was in reference to AC biting a head off one live on stage, I think in Toronto :(
