The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 17th June)

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning Everyone

Gamba Osaka want Yosuke Ideguchi back!

The 22yo midfielder, dubbedf the Japanese Bremner when he arrived 18 months ago went straight out on loan to Culture Club only to find it difficult to settle in to Western culture and spent the majority of his stay benched.

He went out on a season long loan to Bundesliga 2 side Greuther Fürth, only to rupture his posterior cruciate ligament early in proceedings ruling him out of the majority of the season.

Should Ideguchi be given a chance to prove his worth at Elland Road this Summer, he is only 22?

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds will make an offer of £250,000 for Carlisle United's Liam McCarron.

The talented teenager has also caught the attention of the Blades, Derby and Wolves.

A fee of £250,000 is believed to be enough to tempt the midfielder away.

What would you say Leeds top 3 biggest bargains have been in the last 25 years?

What would you say Leeds biggest flops have been?

I'll start with Nigel Martyn. He signed for Leeds from Palace in 1996 for 2.5m.

I know its a different market place but Jack Butland for 25m???

The biggest waste of money? I'm not going Brolin or Seth Johnson; I'm going to two loanees. These two were such a waste of wages that the crowd booed their every pass.

It was during the January transfer window of the 2013/14 season, and McDermott was in charge. Leeds had absolutely no wingers on their books and fans were screaming out for some wide men.

McDermott signed Jimmy Kébé from Palace and Cameron Stewart from Hull. Both were utterly useless.

After Kebe's stint at Elland Road, he retired, and became a professional poker player whilst Leeds had an agreement with Hull that meant Leeds had an obligation to sign Stewart permanently.

Cellino refused, and was successfully sued by Stewart for £750k.

Stewart, now 28, has been without a club having been released by Lincoln city after four games during the 2017/18 season!

Morning EB team all

Indeguchi IMO deserves at least a shoot at ER he’s been major unlucky with injuries and as you point out he’s only 22 so he’s got plenty in the tank

Don’t know anything about McCarron but in these days £250k is peanuts so worth the gamble

Biggest bargain the Academy think of all the youth that’s come through there and gone on to play at a high level over the years

Biggest flop difficult as we’ve had so many but got to agree that Cameron Stewart was definitely in the last 10 years one of the worst and laziest players to ever put on a Leeds shirt and so pleased to hear he doesn’t have a club now

Morning Ratscoot, I remember listening to Leeds on the radio.

Stewert had just broken free of his defender and was free on goal with miles of space, and Stewart starts doing crossovers and Eddie was going crazy on the radio...

Let's go back 5 years to the 2013/14 season.

How many of these players would get a starting place today?

Well at least two for certain, Coop and Gaetano. Lewis Cook would be nailed on, maybe Silvestri

Good morning Matt

Cooper & Berardi are still in our squad

Charlie Taylor

Would have progressed under Bielsa's guidance, better than any player we've got at LWB atm by a country mile. Always a threat going forward & a decent defender too

Lewis Cook

Oh how Marcelo would love to have this lad in our midfield, still raw when he left Leeds, would have given us pace & energy in central midfield playing a box to box role

Billy Sharp

Not the one we witnessed when he was at Leeds however his Blunts form would have seen him score a bucketful with all the chances we created under Bielsa's style of play, Sharp would have stuck the majority of those chances away that were missed by the likes of Bamford, Roofe, Roberts & Harrison

Automatic promotion had these three been in Marcelo's squad

Well Charlie Taylor and Lewis Cook are both playing at a higher level, so definitely those two.

Afternoon All,

Yosuke Ideguchi should be allowed to return to Japan and try to get his career back on track.
Things haven't worked out for him either here or in Spain so the best thing for all concerned is a return to his native country.
It's a shame as he looked to have real promise.

Liam McCarron is definitely worth the punt at 250k
As Ratscoot has already said, 250k is nothing in today's market.

Cameron Stewart - what a waste of space he was.
I pissed myself laughing when he ended up at Ipswich.
Even they got rid of him sharpish.
Not at all surprised to hear he is without a club now.
But he is by no means the only embarrassment to pull on a Leeds shirt.
I remember David O'Leary spouting about how Pierre Laurent was better than David Ginola when we signed him.
I don't think he ever made a first team appearance?

Afternoon Chilli, do you remember Andy O'Brien?

19 November, manager Simon Grayson revealed post match, that O'Brien had come to him the day before the game and refused to play for Leeds ever again. Grayson subsequently stated that O'Brien's career at Leeds was now over due to his refusal to play, however, it later emerged O'Brien's refusal to play was down to the fact he was at time suffering from depression and was "not in the right state of mind" when he stated he would no longer play for Leeds.
