Swansea clear out

Post by 1964white »

Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony is to leave Swansea City, alongside club captain Leroy Fer.

Two more players whose contracts are up next month, Sweden defender Martin Olsson and Dutch wing Luciano Narsingh, will also depart on free transfers.

Between them, the quartet cost Swansea more than £20m in transfer fees.

Swansea have also announced that Wayne Routledge has been released, but the veteran winger could yet be offered a new deal.

Swansea have already seen on-loan defender Cameron Carter-Vickers return to Spurs this summer, while young professionals Adam King, Tyler Reid, Aaron Lewis, Ryan Blair, Keston Davies, Adnan Maric and Jack Withers have been released.

On top of all this

Swansea look certain to lose the manager Graham Potter to Brighton

And only a matter of time before Dan James is snapped up by a premiership club

I would definitely consider Leroy Fer. Little bit worried about his injury record, but he’s class at this level and he’s just the sort of player who could make a significant difference to us next season. If he stayed fit!

Can’t see Dan James joining us now, though we did give him a very warm welcome at ER in February so you never know. If young talented players like this received good advice he would be told to stay in the Championship to develop. Sadly the chances of any advice he receives not being contaminated with the thought of the big bucks in the PL are next to zero.

Fer did look a class act when I saw him in our game at Swansea, however he is 30yo next January & I can see him becoming more injury prone as he ages, 90 games in the last three seasons in fact he has never played more than 30 games a season in his whole career so on that basis whoever signs him are likely to without his services for over a third of their season.

When you think our current crop of first-team players such as Ayling, Phillips, Alioski & Klich have all played 40+ games with Pontus, Cooper & Pablo 37+ games this season, that's the ratio of games a club should be expecting from their first XI

Fer won't stay in the Championship with his wage demands.
