Wasted Funds

Post by Cjay »

Considering Radz isn't exactly keen on spending money on transfers he isnt to fussy about what we do have being wasted.

Izzy Brown £300k in wages roughly.
Vurnon Anita will have been a high earner so £1mil at least in wages probably more.
Pawel Cibicki £1.5mil transfer fee so what maybe £2mil total including wages.
Pierre Lasogga £1.5mil in wages.
De Bock £2-3mil plus £12-15k a week.
Lewis Baker, Jack Harrison (50k a week Harrison is on) we will have spent at least a few hundred grand there.
Sacko £1.5mil
Ideguchi 500k

Thats probably £10mil wasted at least and probably more when other fees are taken into account.

Money to pay off Hecky and TC.

During Radz time we have probably wasted £20mil, its quite staggering really when you think about it.

Some of the signings were just bizarre, Quasim Bouy, Yosuke Ideguchi, what was the point of them?

And how are we going to make a profit on some of them?

Who is going to pay even close to £1.5mil each for Cibicki and Sacko?

Or what about Anita how do we get back the millions we have paid him?

Or De Bock we have probably sunk over £4mil into him?

And what in the blue hell was the point of Izzy Brown?

Wasting money.

Thats football.

As an inexperienced football protagonist Radz placed his trust in Victor Orta to guide and advise on player purchase. Our transfer policy, including loans, has indeed been woeful, but main culpability lies with Orta and not Radz in my opinion. Though the vice like grip on expenditure does of course rest with the owner.

Cibicki has done well in Sweden, Sacko has done well in Turkey, Grot is highly rated in the Netherlands. I think we can get fees for them.

We signed far too many players last summer, Radz scattergun approach was what someone new to football does. We won't see it again, but it's still left us with many players on long contracts.

When spending those sorts of fees in football these days well all the signings are going to be gambles. Cibicki was highly rated and supposedly a lot of big clubs had been watching him, we saw he had the talent in his brief appearances for us but seemed to lack physicality and not want to work hard (maybe could be a star in some leagues but probably not cut out for the championship). Ekuban another that seemed a waste of money but it looks like we will make money on him. It's all about balance as players like Alioski is worth more than we paid for him. Equally last summer we signed players that seemed less of a gamble but are Douglas and Bamford now worth what we paid for them? Klich is definitely worth more than we paid for him. Look at Roofe we paid £3m for him and up until this season his value had gone down, all it takes is something to click into place and a player that seemed a waste of money is suddenly a good signing. Klich waste of money till a new manager got the best out of him, Roofe the same. If we'd say paid £500k for Phillips it would have seemed a waste of money until this year.

I think the biggest factor was that we didn't really know where to start in fixing this team. Turns out it all starts with the manager, funny old thing eh?

Now we've clearly seen the calibre of Bielsa with almost entirely the tools he had available at the start of the season. I'd be immensely worried if we hadn't augmented his skill with the tools we know he needs to get the job done.

Hindsight is one thing, we can excuse ignorance to some degree, but now we aren't ignorant. If we're still talking about wasted funds this time next season then there can be no excuse.

Think we're doing just fine tbh, the whole management team is doing a good job at the moment. does anyone know if we got any money in for the loans out?

Not seeing wasted funds, just normal risk expenditure. Want to avoid that then don't sign anyone outside of kids and sell when they need a contract renewing
