Leeds in the championship

Post by 1964white »

Leeds in the Championship:

Goals: 73 (5th)
Shots: 791 (1st)
On-Target: 242 (2nd)
Shots Conceded: 441 (1st)
Possession: 59.7% (1st)
Pass %: 79.4 (5th)
Chances: 613 (1st)
Recoveries PG: 58 (1st)
xGF: 76.8 (joint-1st)
xGA: 41.3 (1st)
Conversion: 13% (14th)
Clean Sheets: 16 (Jt-4th)

Pretty obvious why we failed to be promoted automatically

A prolific striker essential in the summer

Interestingly I heard the other day that Bamford's goals per minute is up there with the best in the league. Had we had a season where both strikers were fit for the majority then we would have seen a different picture.

So many of those "chances" were just pointless conclusions to periods of pressure where ended by a hopeful shot that went way over or wide, or ended up in the hands of the keeper.

Pathetic really.

We need a few players who can strike the ball cleanly first time from outside the box. Not having a threat there has been a major weakness.

Certainly a valid point as you would expect strikers to have better conversion rates than other players so having either Roofe or Bamford fully fit all year would likely have seen our conversion rate be better - having both fit all season could definitely have made the difference. You also have to wonder as to how wise playing with just 1 striker is as surely a team with 2 competent strikers would convert more chances than teams with just 1 striker.

Indeed Weasel a interesting enough conundrum !.. as to which striker and or what pairing to have?.
Come Saturday we are looking as if Roofe is that answer for the moment . Although maybe Harrison can adapt again or young aRyan Edmonsson can take his chance.Lovely if he can & does just that.

Roofe off a target man would be difficult to defend, he's very quick and clever plus a natural finisher. Not ideal he has to play up front on his own and worked best with a pure AMF in Saiz. We've not really replaced Saiz though I think Bogusz could be the answer
