The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 18th Feb)

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning Everyone

Kemar Roofe is set to undergo scans this morning on a knee injury.

The 26 yo hotshot has been in impressive form netting 14 times this season in all competitions!

He was pictured in Leeds City Centre over the weekend in knee brace!

Should Leeds be without their top scorer for a matter of weeks or even months, how will this effect the team performance?

Is Bamford ready to step up to the mantle?

Perhaps Roberts will step up?

Will we ever see Izzy Brown start a game?

According to Bet365, Leeds chances of finishing top of the Championship come May are drifting.

Leeds are joint favourites alongside Norwich at 7/4 to finish top of the Championship, and are 8/13, again the same as Norwich to finish in the top 2!

Both teams are 2/5 to get promoted.

Odds are based on bets made. Not surprising that our odds have lengthened a bit given recent results.

If Roofe is out, Bamford will play upfront no doubt, in fact even with Roofe in the team, he has played that role - which is a waste of Roofe's ability in my opinion, but it may work.

Morning all,

I wonder what Roofe was doing in the city centre with a bldy knee brace on. The last place fans would want him if he isn't well.
I can only assume it is a MB reverse mind games trick that rather than reveal a teamsheet 3 days early, lets stick half the team in
leg braces to confuse the oppostiion

Funny how often selection dilemmas can sort themselves out. Bamford injured while Roofe was fit and now Bamford is fit and it looks like it is hard to fit them both into the team and then Roofe supposedly is injured.
Same as KP being ready to resume the no4 role and Forshaw gets injured. Sometimes injuries and bans can be a manager's best friend as it stops him having difficult decisions to make.

Will we ever see Izzy Brown start a game?

Would imagine he will be a sub for two or three games first and then a starting place would be dependant on how well he did and/or if a space in the starting line up becomes available.

roofe will be a big massive miss . sounds he'll be out for most of the season. apart from his goals he offers so much more to the team and our system .
bamford not quite at the races yet but needs to step up now . no better time for the lad.

the jury is still out on brown .

Confirmed by the club that Roofe has knee ligament damage, and will be out for hopefully weeks not months.

Bamford/Roberts/Kun gives us decent options

next man up and we had stopped using Roofe properly anyway

Not the way I think I'm afraid, Roofe poor in both games for me, like Kalvin playing central defence. Roofe is an off ball striker not an on ball midfielder. He's not opening up defences and probably only has value at that position as a decoy runner and may chip in with one in every 5/6 games. He'd be a slightly better winger but we're covered there

Cupboard getting bare now for match fit strikers. Hopefully losing Rkofe wont knock the confidence of the squad who must be war weary by now.

Beginning on Saturday we have what I feel will be a season defining run of games. I just feel we are one great performance away from going on a great run.

Re Roberts can he hit a ball from outside the box? ( one area we are low on)

Glad to read Halme had a good game. He might be handy against Bolton as their strikers are 6 footers

Robert's goal v Hull was from outside the box. He also had a shot from outside the box v QPR that hit both posts.

Thanks I had forgotten about that. The more options the better.

I do like players that can hit the ball with power from distance. Makes it so much harder to defend against as you can't simply drop deep and say shoot from there. The 1 big thing we are missing from this team.

EFL hits Leeds United with £200k fine as 'Spygate' saga ends

Leeds United have tonight been hit with a £200,000 fine by the EFL over the ‘Spygate’ dispute.
The punishment, which draws a line under the controversy, has been accepted by Leeds and will not be subject to any appeal.

The club have apologised, saying the saga was "judged culturally unacceptable in the English game", and agreed to support the introduction of a new EFL rule governing the privacy of training grounds.

The EFL was investigating Leeds and head coach Marcelo Bielsa after a member of Bielsa’s scouting team was spotted outside Derby County’s training complex the day before Derby lost 2-0 at Elland Road on January 11.

Derby made a formal complaint to the EFL and Bielsa subsequently admitted that he had dispatched scouts to watch every Championship club train this season.

That admission led 11 teams in the division to write to the EFL demanding a thorough investigation.

The governing body had the option of charging Leeds under regulation 3.4, which requires clubs to act in the “utmost good faith”, and asking an independent panel to pass judgement on the case.

A settlement has been announced this evening, however, following talks between United officials and the governing body. Leeds admitted to a breach of the rules.

An EFL statement said: “After finalising its investigations into the incident at Derby County’s training ground on Thursday, January 10, the EFL reached the conclusion that the conduct undertaken by Leeds United in observing opponents’ training sessions is a breach of regulation 3.4.

“Leeds United has fully cooperated with the EFL’s inquiries and following a comprehensive review of all the evidence provided, the club has now formally admitted a breach of regulation 3.4.

“As a consequence, the club has been fined £200,000 (inclusive of a contribution to costs) and received a formal reprimand and warning to the effect that the club’s conduct fell significantly short of the standards expected by the EFL and must not be repeated.

“In addition, Leeds United has agreed to support a new EFL regulation that makes it clear that clubs will be expressly prohibited from viewing opposition training in the 72 hours immediately prior to a fixture, unless invited to do so.

“The EFL has informed all the Championship clubs who sought additional clarification regarding the conduct of Leeds United of the findings that relate to their club.”
United argued strongly against any punishment in written submissions sent to the EFL two weeks ago but have agreed to take a six-figure fine in return for closure.

The club said sorry to Derby publicly when the controversy first broke and apologised again tonight, saying: “We accept that whilst we have not broken any specific rule, we have fallen short of the standard expected by the EFL with regards to regulation 3.4.

“We apologise for acting in a way that has been judged culturally unacceptable in the English game and would like to thank Shaun Harvey and the EFL for the manner in which they conducted their investigations. Our focus can now return to matters on the field.”

The Football Association was also looking into ‘Spygate’ but is not expected to bring further action.

Bielsa’s habit of observing opposition training sessions has no precise precedent in England and is not specifically covered by EFL rules. Crystal Palace received a £25,000 fine from the Premier League in 2014 following allegations that Cardiff City’s team sheet was leaked to them ahead of a match between the sides. United, whose staff are believed to have successfully watched around half of the clubs in the Championship train, have been fined almost 10 times as much.
