ROCK/INDIE/METAL/PUNK/BLUES
IDLES - Joy As An Act Of Resistance
Low - Double Negative

POP/ELECTRONICA/SOUL/R&B/HIP-HOP/REGGAE/WORLD
Sons Of Kemet - Your Queen Is A Reptile
Nils Petter Molvaar and Sly & Robbie - Nordub

CLASSICAL/JAZZ/EASY LISTENING
Olafur Arnalds - re:member
Yellow6 - REFLECT

LIVE ALBUM
Gary Numan - Savage (Live)

Beaten to it with Kamasi Washington who has produced yet another jaw-droppingly great record.
Honestly wasn't sure where to put Yellow6. Not really suitable for any of the categories but I thought it was probably closest to classical, despite being almist exclusively electric guitar based.....have a listen and see if you agree.......
Not 100% sure Low belong in the "Rock/Indie/Metal/Punk/Blues" bit either....... aybe indie but this latest one is waaay more experimental and challenging than their previous output.

Will probably add to these soon.

You can be credited with the Kamasi Washington album Durly as you introduced his music to me last year

Don't worry mate. We all introduce each other to new music on here. :)

Some good jazz out this year, both new (Kamasi, Sons Of Kemet, Kamaal Williams) and the great re-discovered Coltrane album which I'm pleased has been nominated as well (good work billie1).

Don't know where you'd put it - probably singer/songwriter as opposed to indy - but "13 Rivers" by Richard Thompson is the best album of the year. Only nomination I'll make.

I haven't bought one 'new' album this year, only albums I may not have picked up first time round from mainly the late 60's/70s.

The older I get the more difficult I find it to like new stuff (albeit to a point that is laziness on my part I think), albeit I have picked a few things on the various music threads on here.

No Ryley Walker so it's a list lacking in the years best album...

Did enjoy the Kamasi Washington being described as a bit f*****g Disney though...

But they know their Hip-hop/Rap...

I struggled to fit the three best albums of the year outside of Deafman into two picks

Kids See Ghosts is excellent
Earl Sweatshirt is back with another stunning album, I've nominated him before

and Masta Ace & Marco Polo's A Breukelen Story is so close too

I'm going to switch out Kids See Ghosts for the magnificent

Masta Ace and Marco Pole 'A Breukelen Story' One of the best of it's type since the late great Guru passed away ....love it
