Game Changers

Post by Cjay »

For a long time our bench has been a desolate wasteland of uninspiring dross.

When things have been going wrong we havent really had anything on the bench to turn the tide in our favour.

But that has started to change :)

Maybe not next weekend but by the time we play Villa we could have 3 potential game changers on the bench.

Patrick Bamford- The posh boy from Grantham didnt make the pitch vs QPR, but he is a proven goalscorer at this level. Able to play as a lone striker, number 10 or winger his versatility offers us plenty of options and a different option to Kemar Roofe.

Izzy Brown- Apparently fit for selection again according to Bielsa. If and its a big if but if he is able to get back to the player he was before his injury then we have a genuine match winner on the bench. Big, strong, pacey and direct, he like Bamford would offer us something different to Samu Saiz.

Jack Clarke - The teenager is the real deal (imo) , he has made a difference everytime he has come off the bench. His pace and trickery offers a real threat that none of our other wingers do. Coming off the bench to face tired defenders, he is a defenders nightmare, also benefiting from the exuberance of youth, he is fearless.

We cast envious eyes at the squads of others.

Stoke had Crouchie, McClean and Diouf on the bench.

Villa had Hogan and Kodjia.

WBA had Ollie Burke, Hal Robson Kanu and Chris Brunt.

Boro had Assombalonga, Braithewaite and George Saville.

Derby had Waghorn, Nugent and Jozefzoon.

A fully fit Patrick Bamford, Izzy Brown and Jack Clarke are as good as any of those :)

Excited to have Izzy Brown available - he's been there and done it as a key part of a promotion winning side who played the type of football we play. As you say "if" he can get back anywhere near those levels he will be a real asset.

Notice you don't mention the options available to the Canaries  Continue to be bemused by how well they are doing :duno:

Tbf they did have one of the most prolific scorers in EFL history on the bench in Jordan Rhodes (although been a while since he was that player).

And Onel Hernandez who is a very good player.

They will drop points soon, you looked at there fixtures? Very tough :)

Of course there are no 'easy' games in the Championship but from Boxing Day until the 10th February their fixtures are:
Forest (H)
Derby (H)
Brentford (A)
WBA (A)
B'ham (H)
Sheff Utd (H)
The Mighty Whites (A)
Ipswich (H)
All tough games, even the Ipswich one, because all hell breaks lose when they play each other. Proper hatred, tractor style.
