Best Lower League Striker

Post by Cjay »

So since the relegation in 2004 we have had a host of would be heroes, some have failed some havent, but it hasnt been all bad.

Got me thinking.

WHo is our best striker since relegation? top 3?

You can include players who played other roles (winger for example) provided they did play up front more then once or twice, Max Gradel for example.

Here is a list of possible choices.
Max Gradel
Kemar Roofe
Ross McCormack
Rob Hulse
David Healy
Davide Somma
Luciano Becchio
Jermaine Beckford
Chris Wood
Pierre Lasogga
Brian Deane (2004/2005 version)
Robbie Blake
Richard Cresswell
Tresor Kandol
Luke Varney
Billy Paynter
Matt Smith
Mirco Antenucci
Souleymane DOukara
Billy Sharp

Could not put Beckford in there due to him not playing in the championship for us and as such 4 I have ahead of him all proved themselves at a higher level than him. Becchio, RMc, Gradel, Wood.

A toss up between Becchio and RMc who both had more than 1 good season (which is why Gradel and Wood are below them) and both had to create a lot on their own.
Would give Gradel 3rd ahead of Wood due to him not being an out and out striker.

Had Beckford remained at Leeds I reckon our potent strike-force B&B plus Howson & Gradel's goalscoring form would have taken us up to the prem, certainly much closer than where we finished in 7th position
