Victor Orta

Post by Cjay »

Last season there was a lot of frustration with our DOF.

Poor signings, wasted money, uneven squad, interesting managerial choices.

There were accusations that Victor didn't care and he was the one people wanted put of the club before anyone else.

Then Marcelo Bielsa arrived, and it became clear that that appointment wouldn't have happened without Victor Orta who did a lot of the early work to get Bielsa here.

It helped hos reputation a bit, but not much, still there were many who would happily have seen him sacked.

But then another thing happened, pre season Sky did a short program on us and the appointment of Bielsa.

And in it there was an interview with Victor Orta and he spoke honestly and candidly about what he had done, mistakes he had made and what lessons he had learned.

You didnt need a degree in Psychology or Sociology to see that everything Orta said in the interview was sincere and heartfelt and LUFC fans started to see the Spaniard in a different light.

Not as this selfish, self interested waster of money who only wanted to line his own pockets, but as a man who knew he had made many errors in his 1st season who regretted them and hoped to make up for them in time.

And now when we look at our side Victor Orta doesnt seem as hopeless as some previously thought.

Barry Douglas, Adam Forshaw, Patrick Bamford, all proven Championship players with promotion experience.

Gianni Alioski 3 goals and 3 assists already and someone Bielsa clearly rates very highly who has shown his versatility.

Samu Saiz, divides opinion but on his day he is a real gem who gets you on your feet in excitement.

Young Tyler Roberts, another who it seems Victor was right about all along.

And of course Mateusz Klich.

Thats without mentioning the role as DOF Victor must have played in convincing King Pablo not to leave us.

Or how about helping to convince Jack Clarke to stick with us and turn down the Oil funded Boys in Blue.

He deserves a lot of credit and popular opinion on Victor Orta has shifted somewhat.

Not to say he hasnt deserved the stick, he has wasted a lot of money, I'm sure he knows that.

But we wouldn't be where we are without him would we?

And finally, those "he doesnt care" accusations were permanently shut down vs Brentford. :)

victor orta deserves zero credit IMO

signed an absolute bunch of dross last season

no credit can be given to the signings of forshaw, bamford and douglas - douglas was the standout fullback in the championship last season, bamford and forshaw were both established championship players (hardly finding undiscovered gems) and neither have proven their worth yet anyway

klich (as much as I don't like to admit it) is turning out to be a good player, as is saiz, tyler roberts looks like on for the future but the bulk of the team is not actually orta's - peacock farrell, ayling, jansson, cooper, phillips, roofe, hernandez - all here before he arrived.

Lets not forget he basically wasted the whole of what we got from Chris Wood in a season.

maybe some credit for the idea of appointing Bielsa - but let's wait until the end of the season before seeing how that works out
