Re: What are you doing today ?
The highlighted bit refers to me, not the rest lol. I do have very thin feet and find it extremely hard to (a) find a pair of shoes/sandals/boots I actually like (b) find a pair in my size and (c) find a pair that fits All in all an exceedingly traumatic experience for me. I must say though my mum bought me a pair of boots for Christmas, first pair I tried on fitted like a pair of gloves, I was utterly amazed, this has never happened before
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Re: What are you doing today ?
I actually remember my mum taking me to the doctors then seeing a specialist about my feet when I was about 9 or 10. All I remember is the advice never to wear slip ons. even slippers a they'd ruin my feet for good. I never have.
I have very broad feet with very very high bridges and arches ..means I have to buy shoes two sizes too big as a minimum and even then they cut off blood flow to my foot.

Re: What are you doing today ?
This afternoon I have mostly been having a heart attack
Re: What are you doing today ?
Took Jill out for meal today at The Wellington in Lund to celebrate her birthday on Wednesday 1st January.
We both had for the main course
Pan fried calves liver, blue cheese potato pancake, melting onions with lemon and thyme, black treacle cured bacon, red wine jus
Desserts
Jill had sticky toffee pudding, vanilla ice cream & I couldn't resist the apple baked cheesecake with caramel ice cream
And a couple glasses of chardonnay of course
Absolutely delicious, will be eating at the Welly again

Fantastic choice, I love liver and kidneys but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea in fact some people are revolted at the thought of it.

Re: What are you doing today ?
Good for you Norm, I try every year to have a dry January after the excesses of the festive season but unfortunately this year will be interrupted by a weekend in Dublin with the boys so I might extend it through to the end of February.
Re: What are you doing today ?
It's always a good idea to give excesses a break Rich, but I haven't done this '3 months off' since about 2013, so I thought it was time to get back in shape somewhat. In the past I've usually shed about 25 lbs., saved a crapload of money and got structural and organic improvements. Why I don't do it permanently I don't know, except I do like to go out and there's not much else to do around here, so much of our social life revolves around friends who also imbibe.rich_leeds64 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 1:22 am

Re: What are you doing today ?
We don't often eat liver at home, when we do it's usually lamb as we're not keen on pigs liver so we thought we give calves liver a try & yes what a great choice. Deliciously tender, the bacon cooked in black treacle had a real kick, the blue cheese potato pancake with melting onions & lemon and thyme in red wine jus was to die for, all in all cooked perfectly.rich_leeds64 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 6:57 am Fantastic choice, I love liver and kidneys but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea in fact some people are revolted at the thought of it.
The Wellington has a huge reputation for great food in our local area, can't wait for our next visit!
Re: What are you doing today ?
We're heading to Brid later for a nice walk along the seafront, sunny day forecasted then onto another of our favourite places the Victoria Mill for for homemade cake/scones/etc & great coffee. Two plates of cake & two coffees for £5 sat in unusual cafe surroundings run by Maxine & Russ both Leeds fans too!

We love Robins Hood Bay only 40 miles from us Adam, stayed there one weekend for my 50th birthday.
Leyburn is a lovely old market town, has one of the poshest charity shops in the UK, feels like you are entering someone's house. Some decent eating places there, can't remember the name of the tea-room/pubs we ate at although we did have a excellent meal at the 'Sandpiper' one evening when we were staying in Middleham a few years ago

Whitby is a great place for fish & chips
Re: What are you doing today ?
As a young soldier I was stationed at Catterick several times, once in trade training, and whilst a member of the White Helmets,
We used to regularly grab a minibus and pile off down to Leyburn on the piss.... this had several advantages over the usual drinking places..
there were no other squadies
lots of untapped totty
and we were not banned from any pubs (well to start with anyhoo)
From what I remember it is a lovely place

So is Ossett (next to Horbury, 4 miles east of Wakefield) and Sharlston (4 miles west of Wakefield on the A645), where I grew up, and I always prefer Haddock to Cod.1964white wrote:

I've always found that it's not where the fish shop is, it's the excellence or otherwise of the batter, and the way excess batter is removed after dipping but before being fried. Bit like Yorkshire pudding, which is (as all of you know) just good batter, but there's an art to it.
I can do both excellent fried fish and YP because I understand the batter.
Strange, but I find myself salivating - can't imagine why!
