The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 8th Oct)
Good Morning Everyone
Leeds slipped out of the automatic promotion slots over the weekend for the first time this season as the draw specialists in the Championship held the Whites 1-1.
Its fair to say that Brentford are considered one of the best footballing sides in the division, though the comparisons on the pitch were clear for all to see.
First talking point, the penalty.
At first glance, for those of you watching the game from the terraces or sitting on the edge of your seat in front of the box, did it look a penalty?
Had Watkins not dived, would Peacock-Farrell's momentum have taken the striker down anyway?
If he had, would it have then been a penalty?
Are Leeds naturally unlucky, or do you feel that decisions even themselves out over the duration of the season?
Before you answer that, did you know that since Leeds were last awarded a penalty 50 GAMES AGO , we’ve had 9 spot kicks given against us and 8 red cards.
Professional to the last, Bielsa refused to blame the referee for decisions that went against the Whites, and even said a draw was a fair result.
Brentford's gaffer Dean Smith had the following to say:-
"We've come to the cauldron that is Elland Road and the first thing anyone says to me is commiserations, because we've come away with one point but probably deserved all three.
"I thought we were excellent today. We were on the front foot, forced them into mistakes, and I didn't think we made the most of our opportunities and chances.
"I'm disappointed we gave a cheap free-kick away and didn't defend it very well and they end up getting a point."
You may recall last season O'Kane was given a straight red card for a head butt. I use the term head butt loosely as there was very little contact. During Saturday's game the same thing happened to Alioski when he went to retrieve the ball from the Brentford dugout.
As the Macedonian International was trying to wrestle the ball off the away bench, Canos (who had been substituted) clearly headbutted Alioski on the back of the head. The only difference is Alioski (for the first time in his career) stayed on his feet.
Thoughts?
A lot of people have been critical of Harrison's performances recently. Its fair to say that the on loan winger has not set the World alight in recent games, but sections of the ER faithful are calling for the England U21 winger to be dropped in favour of Jack Clarke.
Thoughts?
Tom Pearce must be wondering what he has done wrong?
Not only did the England U21 International miss out on a starting place in favour of Utility player Stuart Dallas, but when the Norther Ireland winger was replaced, Alioski took over the left back role.

Good morning Matt & everyone
I stood in the kop absolutely dumbfounded when Simpson awarded the Bees a penalty.
The less said about the ref the better. Pontus said it all
Jack Clarke looks a better player than Harrison & he's one of our own, more direct & doesn't fanny about trying to get the ball on his left foot, appears to be an intelligent mature player for one so young.
Surely Harrison & Dallas won't start v Blackburn
Alioski an instant replacement for Douglas
Btw we all witnessed one of the best performances we've seen at ER from Pontus Jansson, whilst the majority around him floundered he defied the Bees more or less on his own with a world class display, we'd have lost that game heavily without him. First time I've given a player 10/10 since I joined MOT

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 8th Oct)
How did Alioski play at left-back?
It sounded to me like he improved at left back from his earlier position and maybe Bielsa has seen something in Alioski that could benefit us.
Despite our sometimes superior play in some games we've had a lean few games overall against sometimes good opposition so I'm happy that Bielsa does what he does.
I don't think we're yet on as secure a footing as we had hoped to be. I know Brentford are good, but one review of the game stated "Pontus Jansson's 88th minute header rescued an undeserved draw for Leeds who finished with 10 men following Luke Ayling's straight red card."
Fingers crossed Matt - hopefully we'll weather the squalls.
Well, must get to bed.

Morning Norm, Ayling was 2nd yellowed. The TV camera didn't pick up the 2nd yellow before the red. Ayling was shocking, but everyone deserves an off game...Norm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 7:51 am How did Alioski play at left-back?

Morning Leon, how absurd is it that Harrison is on £51,000 a week? I bet Clarke is on 2k, and happy.1964white wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 7:46 am Good morning Matt & everyone

I was hoping that would be the case Leon. With our injury list we need all the help we can get.1964white wrote:

You have to feel a bit sorry for Pearce...

Good morning all,
I used to play in goal BPF wasnt trying to bring down the player. He was trying to smother the ball. IF when the ball went right, it came off his outstetched legs, would it have been a pen as he played the ball? At the very worst it was obstruction
Was very pleased to see Clarke come on and i think he should be promoted to the first team squad full stop. He can change games

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 8th Oct)
Can't remember the last time the opposition had a red card against us. There was Taylor at Bristol City last year, but his was rescinded, other than that can't remember.
Not sure who said we didn't deserve a point, but that is nonsense. Saiz, Phillips, Baker (3), Cooper all had good chances, they didn't deserve to win on a dive.
Clarke is much better than Harrison, said it for ages. He's so one footed it's unreal. If Pablo isn't back for Blackburn, Clarke should start.
Feel sorry for Pearce. I know he was poor v Preston, but he hardly should be chastised for that. Unfortunately he won't get much of a chance with Douglas. Perhaps he should get a loan in January if Dallas and Alioski would be ahead of him if Douglas is out.

Shocking if true. I hope we're not paying anywhere near 50%.Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 8:27 am Morning Leon, how absurd is it that Harrison is on £51,000 a week? I bet Clarke is on 2k, and happy.
Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 8th Oct)
BPF did nothing wrong. He made himself big, narrowed the angle, made him have to be rounded to get a shot away, he wasn't trying to bring him down. The player had to dive because it was easier than trying to score. Hopefully his yellow is rescinded, but this is the EFL so won't be.

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 8th Oct)
Not a fan of loans and this batch not doing a lot to change my mind. Harrison needs a lot more football in this country before he's factor. Came from the States where they play non contact football at a slow place (it seems that way whenever I see a game) and only had a couple or so starts before arriving here. Feels like he may be a next season story or maybe even later. When he's no longer a Leeds player.
What is it one goal and no assists since Pablo went down? ...not great for a winger
Dean smith is manager of Brentford, what he says about games is for Brentford fans, he won't be looking at the game from our point of view...But we played the best football of the game albeit for the final third.
I was more worried about Pearce last season when he hadn't signed the new contract, he has now and will get his chance as he's going to be a very good player. Unless the injury crisis bites deeper that won't be this season..
If the FL fail to sanction Canos then we'll know there is bias...If it 's just luck then we're due a massive amount as we haven't seen any for 20 years or more

I don't understand anyone who says that our performance was dire.
That game of football was scintillating and pulsating. It was a stone cold boner.
My pants were bursting with excitement.
End to end stuff, excitement, drama, penalties, headbutts, controversy...
if the referee had one more eye he would have been a cyclops.
And at the death a deus ex machina moment from Pontus that is orgasmic
in its fulfillment, and I am not talking about the goal, but the interview afterwards.
