Jamal Blackman

Post by Cjay »

Signed on a season long loan.

No purchase option.

Did a decent job at Sheffield United last season.

Some feedback from Blades fans here for anyone curious.

Pretty pleased.

All i wanted was an improvement on last seasons squad.

Blackman is an improvement on Wiedwald and Lonners.

Watched the u23s yesterday and on numerous occasions he came and claimed corners and crosses.

Given our poor set piece record and how BPF doesnt claim crosses maybe time for him to be given a chance?

Got to stop conceding from set pieces some how. :duno:

For me commanding the box is BPF's area of concern. Most/all other things he is fine.
At 6ft 4 he should catch and at worst punch alot more and many of the headed goals from set plays could have been dealt with by him.
Just an observation. He has worked hard though and definitely deserves his place this year

BPF has performed much better than anybody expected, apart from Faaip, it would be harsh to drop the guy, but Blackman would seem to be the better of the two at claiming crosses which would help us, but then you loose out on what BPF brings.

BPF has done ok but i do think the style protects him a lot.

He faces less shots per game then any other goalkeeper in the league.

While he has done ok he is fortunate that the style has protected him.

Just think on balance sacrificing shot stopping a bit for a more commanding gk may be of benifit.

We dont concede many from open play, we protect the gk well in that respect.

Its set pieces that cost us.

Should only come for those he has a shot of getting to, the last three goals probably wouldn't have been viable collects especially v Forest, he did come and claim against Forest well enough. You also don't drop a keeper unless his confidence is shot or there's a string of errors. That would be really bad management

i agree with most of this

don't think you want a keeper coming miles out from his line for corners and crosses because there are so many bodies in the box, the chances are that he won't get to the ball - which leaves an open goal

think bpf has done well - a lot better than I expected. might be unlikely that he goes on to be a top premier league keeper though

Sounds like a bad injury judging by the reports on twitter from a couple of the journalists there. This is the last thing we needed !
Have to get an experienced pro in asap.

We are falling down like nine pins Gurj

Our fans keep insisting we'll be ok as we operate on a twelve man squad, we haven't hit the extensive Christmas period yet

Writing was on the wall for me.

Yes we've been unlucky with injuries but you can't leave wide open & vulnerable in the championship

Like I keep saying we are so vulnerable in so many positions.

On the day Birmingham Live report, we only didn't sign Stockdale because of his wages, Birmingham wouldn't contribute enough toward them, now they're paying his full wage to train with the kids.
