Jerry Mbakogu

The Nigerian has long been linked to us.

A fee of just over £3million has been quoted and recent reports suggest we already paid £400k as a downpayment back in January.

The Capri president Stefano Bonacini has been talking up his the transfer for months.

Spoken of how Jerry "deserves his move" how Jerry is "ready for his move".

Its quite worrying a clubs president would publicly talk up a so called "star" for his team leaving.

Its sounds desperate and like a President who cant believe the money they would be getting.

Jerry Mbakogu had one decent season firing Capri to promotion in the 14/15 season.

Since then he had a spell in Russia on loan in 2016, the club didnt play him much and he returned to Capri January 2017 (there was an option for the Russian team to buy).

Since his return he has scored 13 in 42 in Serie B and has been suffering from injuries.

The £3million fee seems very excessive for a player who hasnt been a prolific scorer at a pretty poor level.

Combined with the almost desperation from Capri to get rid, alarm bells are ringing.

However, Marcelo Bielsa has stalled the deal apparently and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Mbakogu stay in Italy.

Is Jerry destined for Elland Road or has our new manager put a stop to Orta and Radz's plan?

Side note, Jerry's agent is the one that Radz part owned pre Leeds.

Deadline for Jerry has passed (praise be).

But reports in Italy say we are back in negotiations for a knock down price of £1.5mil.

Which is about £1.4mil to much.

Only reason we sign Jerry imo is Radz helping his mate out.

If he was a player who had been firing on all cylinders and scoring 20 goals a season in Italy for a few years then i could understand it.

But he isnt.

What makes him any better then Ekuban for example.

Can't see El Loco being happy with that if true. He was on about trimming the squad, not adding more crap to it!

@PhilHayYEP

Replying to @winds1985lufc and @OliverMedd7

I've been consistently told at this end that the Mbakogu deal is dead, finito, not happening. Odd because it seems to be in the Italian press every day.

Get the feeling we were never that interested once Bielsa started to be rumoured, think we've dodged a bullet there.

this was always such a strange transfer and seemed an awful lot of money for a very average player. glad we've not signed him - pretty worried we were even considering it!

It's odd isn't it though, this is almost a desperation. I've never seen this kind of thing before - it makes me wonder just what was said, hinted at, implied, promised or signed in January - also whether the rumoured 400,000 was in fact paid.

Agree Norm.

Its a very weird situation. The interest in the 1st place was weird.

The owner of Capri is basically begging for the sale of his forward who he said "deserved a chance to play at a higher level".

If thats the case surely you'd be thrilled if you keep him.

Feeling sorry for Jerry now tbh, he is at a club who are desperate to get rid despite him apparently being one of there better performers.

- especially because (apparently) his sale is necessary before they can get other players they need
