Wembley for sale?

Post by YorkshireSquare »

Looks like when we play there next season is could have new owners.

An American billionaire has launched an audacious bid worth more than £500 million to buy Wembley Stadium from the Football Association, the Evening Standard has learned.

Car parts tycoon Shahid Khan - owner of Fulham FC and the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team - is understood to have struck an outline agreement with FA boss Martin Glenn to transfer the “home of English football” to foreign ownership for the first time.

The extraordinary proposal, which will send shockwaves through the sport, was being put before the full board of the domestic game’s governing body today.

Offer of £800m and it cost £757m to build in 2007 (per BBC), doesn't seem a great return to me - be interesting to see what property prices have gone up by in London during that period, would hazard a guess it's more than 5.7%.

They do, this move by Khan looks like a serious move to bring Bortles et al to London... Shudders

What used to be called the Olympic Stadium, on a side note could you imaging tens of thousands of east enders commuting to North West London every home game

You really think so?

I saw the suggestion that there may be an NFL team based there if it comes off but I thought you may have jumped at the chance to go to a game or two. Would you have preferred the Raiders to come or rather none came?

Maybe it's a game better watched on TV.

Surprised some Russian oligarch does not buy it for use as a big washing machine.
