Leeds Utd / Ashington

Post by liggy »

been chewing the fat with
Davey Barron top Ashington pigeon man
Probably one of the best in the UK ,
We got round to the football & cricket as well
Ben Harmison starting to look very promising ( cricket )
Steve Harmison is now managing Ashington FC,
Mark Wood isn't too shabby.
and the milburns jackies cousins
John, George, and Jim all Leeds utd players & their brother in law
John Potts from the famous Blyth spartans and
Leeds Utd best pre- war GK
Not to mention their young cousin Jack charlton
Jimmy Adamson also managed Leeds Utd.
All the above are Ashington folk
Not bad for a small place 4 mile up the road is it

Pretty famous considering the talent that came out liggy.
One of the largest towns in Northumberland with a 27,000+ population but nevertheless not really huge for the male talent it produced.
When I asked Google what famous sportswomen Ashington had produced Google gave me an electronic raspberry and told me to look up female pigeons.

Amazing stuff liggy and it's probably down to having the sports facilities to help kids, along with the mentality that got them made, that churns them out.

john connelly ex man city player managed Ashinton before taking the reigns of the super Queen of the south a few years back, he brought a few decent players with him but only the calibre of lower scottish clubs.

Didn't we sign big Ray Hankin from Burnley ?

Michael Bridges scored one of the best hattricks I've seen for Leeds down at Southampton :soccer:

Good morning M...how are you this fine day,
It's all blue sky here but it's effing freezing man
Was on the sluice first light getting sand of the
beach it was blowing a proper hoolie.
Aye a knaa's Hankin came from Burnley.
Burnley tapped into some talent from this area
Billy Ingham for one lived next door to Sandra's mother
At Bumersund
Sandra's ( bare with me ) mothers sister had a son called
Billy McGlen who played for BLYTH Spartans and was matt busby's
Second ever sighing .
No I was just saying the wallsend boys club is still producing
The talent far to many to name aswell as your Beardsley ,Carricks
Shearer Lee Clarke, watson, Thompson,Fatty Foulks ( steve Bruce )
Hankin Bridges etc etc far to many to mention,
One thing I will say in that area kids have absolutly no interest in
cricket or rugby they might aswell not exist on tyneside.
