Why is Heckingbottom here?
It looked like a pointless change on paper and so it has proved in reality.
After changing the system and giving us two of the worst first halves of the season, he has now reverted to the formation Christiansen was using and got closer to a win.
We're yet to see a real upturn in performance and we've now gone 9 games without a win.
We've missed Saiz badly and he was only on the bench? Cooper came straight back after a month out, but our best player can't start?
What worries me is that Hernandez only came on against Sheff United because of injury, and Saiz and Alioski only got on tonight for injured players. He may have brought them on anyway, but we don't know for sure.

Why was Christiansen ever here ?

Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
Tbf to him he has the same issues as TC.
Our defence isnt good enough, our gk isnt good enough. Individual errors cost us so much this season.
Unless we are making a charge for the playoffs (which clearly we wont) do have to wonder why bother.
Will never know if TC would have done better but there isnt a notable improvement.
TC looked stylish on the touch line in his suit, Hecky is more of an old fashioned Warnock style imo, hence the more direct play.
Tbh i don't think he will be here next season.
Owner and DOF panicked looked about, who is available and English, Hecky fits the bill, if he does a good job then great, if not cheap to sack and replace.
Radz stated playoffs was the minimum in the summer, sacked TC with 16 to go. We were 7 points off, plenty of points left. If we dont make the playoffs and finish about where we are then Orta and Radz failed in there objective.
Unless they blame it all on TC (which with 16 to go isnt viable) then tRadz either blames Orta and Hecky or he blames the players (Orta by association) or they both blame Hecky.
"We appointed Paul with the objective of making the playoffs, despite his best efforts and the support of myself and Victor he was unable to achieve the objective which we all agreed upon on appointment. We have come to a mutual agreement that we part ways with Paul, we thank him very much for his efforts and wish him all the best in the future".

Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
The blame for this season is because of the failure to replace Green, Bartley, Wood and Taylor. Throw them into this team and the problems are all solved. You even get the added bonus of the few goals Bartley would get a there are probably now half a dozen times where Cooper has missed sitters and don't forget it was Bartley's late winning goal (v Blackburn I think) which started our good run last season (and kept Monk in the job if rumours are to be believed).
Any fan could see we hadn't replaced those players properly. We took a risk with a keeper that hasn't worked out and signed a backup that isn't good enough either. We decided to effectively not replace Bartley and simply sign someone (Pennington) to be back up for the player who was back up to Bartley (Cooper). We didn't bother replacing Taylor, we gambled on Borthwick-Jackson and had no real back up apart from playing players out of position. We didn't sign a replacement for Wood. We had signed Ekuban but there was nothing in his history to suggest he was a replacement but more an impact player to have on the bench. Whilst Lasogga has come good of late we have though had to muddle by for half a season.
The blame doesn't lie at the door of TC/PH. You just have to look at the keeper situation to show how farcical it all is - FW dropped after making mistakes, replaced by Lonerghan who was then dropped for making mistakes and replace by FW who is making mistakes again - so what chance has the manager got when clearly neither are good enough?
Last year's first team with the addition of Saiz would likely have been good enough to make the play-offs. This year's team without Green, Bartley, Wood and Taylor are simply a midtable side who are in midtable.

For crying out loud....give the bloke a friggin' chance!!!!!
Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
Why?
On paper bringing in a guy in a relegation battle with 1 win in 16 should see no improvement, and that's the reality.
What's he gonna do? Win a few games eventually?
We need a manager who can get us up.
He hasn't taken over a team in a relegation battle, we have good players and have just brought in a £4.5m midfielder.
Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
this is one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever seen on here - it's been three games!!!

Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
First game I've really seen since PH appointment last night and we look a bit better organised and have come close to beating 2 teams who are generally considered candidates for automatic promotion, I've seen enough to say he's worth giving a chance. We were a shambles when he took over, not going to get fixed over night.

Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
The trouble was that he pointed out the weaknesses in last season's team and obviously the board listened and brought in Saiz and Alioski to give us more speed and attacking options. Doubt TC's power point presentation suggested they got rid of Green, Bartley, Taylor and Wood and replaced them with vastly inferior players.

Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
Didn't you just say that TC would have wanted a ball playing GK? We didn't get rid of Taylor and isn't Lassoga a much better player in his first season than Wood was?

Re: Why is Heckingbottom here?
TC probably wanted a ball playing keeper but probably also wanted someone to be able to do the basics too. We did get rid of Taylor as we actually sold him rather than him simply leaving - yes he would have left regardless but you are simply splitting hairs for some peculiar reason as we also didn't get rid of Bartley - okay perhaps I should have said the following players left: Green, Bartley, Taylor and Wood and weren't adequately replaced.
Lasogga may be better than Wood was in Wood's first season but that is irrelevant as we are talking about the Wood of last year not being adequately replaced. If we are talking about replacing like for like players from the season before last then we will finish in a similar position to the season before last - which is what we are on target to achieve.

Dont agree with that tbh.weasel wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2018 12:26 pm TC probably wanted a ball playing keeper but probably also wanted someone to be able to do the basics too. Chris Wood had a fantastic season but it was a one off.
Played 3 full games for us before he left this season, got 1 goal and was totally anonymous for 2 of those against Preston and Fulham.
No guarantees he will ever get close to that form ever again.
Lassie for all the critics, he came low on confidence, low on match fitness, yet his minutes to goal ratio is very close to Woods last season.
The issue is not replacing Bartley, Taylor and Green in the summer not Wood imo.
Stick the first two in this team we are top 2.

^^^chris wood is the twice the player lasogga is ever going to be. We built a team around Chris Wood last season, we couldn't do the same with lasogga. Let's see at the end of the season if there are any top league teams that want to take lasogga. One just splashed 15 million on Wood.

He already has 83 games and 34 goals in a top league, hows Wood getting on?danhirons wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2018 12:57 pm ^^^chris wood is the twice the player lasogga is ever going to be. 213 games 113 goals-Chris Wood
Take out his 1 fantastic season then its 173 games 86 goals.
121 games-57 goals Pierre Lasogga
Thats there career league stats, difference being the majority of Lassies were in a top league.
Just no basis to consider Wood better then Lasogga.
