Dire Straits debut was released in Oct 78, same day I was in Elephant records when it arrived and they stuck it on..think they sold copies to everyone in the store, 3 of us IIRC. Owner kindly making tea for us as we listened to the full album twice...
I really miss that store next to the penny arcade top of Aldershot..I got many day of release albums there. Just boxes of albums piled up, you had to move around then file through to see what gems there were...
The single charted in 79 having been released the year earlier which everyone missed...79 was probably the year you had dire straits on throughout the summer 64

Would have been '79 Faaip, the huge contingent of foreign students in the seaside town I worked loved the album, sold bucket loads mate
