More to come but, starting with the ROCK>METAL>PUNK>BLUES>INDIE> section. The two best albums I've heard this year in this category, by a country mile are:

IDLES - Brutalism
and
Grand Collapse - Along The Dew

FOLK>COUNTRY>SINGER/SONGWRITER

Nadia Reid - Preservation
Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked At Me

The latter being an immensely difficult and harrowing listen but brilliant.

Not really up on all the bands currently working, but this year marked the release of the complete recording of the Grateful Dead's landmark concert at Barton Hall, Cornell University in 1977. Thoroughly remastered, it fully captures one of the greatest live acts ever at the top of their game. Fantastic stuff.

I caught the band a couple of times on this tour, but not that particular show, alas.

"Whatever it Takes" by the James Hunter Six came out this year as well, and it's pretty great.

Thanks, all, for your nominations. Now I have lots of new stuff to listen to.

POP>SOUL>R&B>HIP-HOP>DUBSTEP>REGGAE-JAZZ>WORLD
Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 3
Songhoy Blues - Resistance

Would have nominated Kamasi Washington - Harmony Of Difference but I think it's technically classed as an EP rather than an album.
