It bugged me last season and it bugged me this season, the hard time this lad gets. Another goal today, "easier to miss" or "tap in" why is this guy getting such a hard time, what's the general consensus on here?

I'm with you on this. Don't understand the criticism the guy gets. Don't know what else he can do to win people over?
Much prefer him to McCormack when he was here.

That won't go down well with those who love the greedy b**tard

Wood is a team player as oppose to Ross who plays for himself

Monk getting the best out of Wood

Completely agree, Wood playing well, is a team player and scoring goals why do people moan and slag him off :duno:

Monk' found the right formation and has got the team ticking and Woods is the focal point, give the manager and the lad credit

McCormack for all his goals was a selfish turd who was out for himself and nobody else. Give me a team full of Woods any day. Pretty sure that as a collective Leeds fans had been wanting the signature of Wood for a few seasons too.

I know fans who would have him back at the flick of a switch

A player like Wood needs service and we have failed to provide that for the past two seasons. Think back to some of his goals and you will note that they are from crosses put in front of him. No player can trap the ball on his head beat two cntre backs and dink the goalie. I sit in front of a fellow who calls the boy a plank of wood week in week out to the extent were I now give him a smug smile when Woody scores and question who else is going to score in this team.

Wood now has a better goals a game ratio than Becchio (who played in a better Leeds team and half of the time in league one) and McCormack.
I will say again like I did in May Wood is better than Becchio and will hopefully become better than RMC.
Reading the matchday programme's this week and they have a section were the oppositions fans comment on their team and who they think are good players from our team etc. And Chris Wood's name came up twice with the opposition fans saying they would love to have Chris Wood in their team and interestingly said they cannot understand the level of criticism he receives from our fans.
Mick McCarthy also said in the post match interviews
"I thought Chris Wood was outstanding, the focal point and the big difference in the team. When they hit it up there they stuck up there and he ran in the channels.

"He showed why he had good money (spent on him) and why he's a good player. Leeds have a very good player. He played well."

It's been a long time since a Leeds player has received a lot of praise from opposition fans and managers.

Chris Wood suits Garry Monk's style of football.

He's better on the floor than in the air imo, incredible bearing in mind his height

Short memories some people have. Only a few weeks ago we was all moaning about Wood being a plank of wood lol. Sorry guys but I'm still not convinced by his scoring abilities I mean with enough chances laid on a plate like Wood gets I am sure I could score as many if not more than him. Saying that I wish him loads of luck and hope he can bang in 30 goals for us (even though he gets 3000 chances) lol

I, too, remain to be convinced by Wood. He's on a roll currently, and his confidence is high, but there's been an element of luck about some of his recent goals. They all count, of course, so I'm not complaining but when that luck deserts him, and it will as is does all strikers at some stage, his lack of clinical finishing ability is likely to cost us. I don't dislike the big lad, and I want him to do well, but I'm just not sure he's good enough if we want to be serious challengers. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong

People often wrongly assume that big players will be great in the air but most of the time it isn't true especially when competing for headers. For a start taller players will usually be ganglier and as such have less spring than a shorter player who's leg muscles are like coiled springs.

As a 6ft 3in centre half I was expected to be dominant in the air. However my pace and tackling were miles better than my heading ability. I did however find it easier to win headers against taller players as when you go up for the headers you are almost leaning into them and as such you gain extra lift whilst in effect pushing them down (not using hands though but just having your chest against their back).

We also had a tall centreforward who would always moan about the lack of service to his feet as people continually lumped the ball up to him. He was actually very good in the air too but what was he expected to do with a ball played up to his head if he had no support?

Confidence is huge with strikers and it is amazing how many times that a striker will get 'lucky' goals if they are in the middle of a good spell and their confidence is high. This is because they are getting themselves into the right positions as they are feeling good and want to get a chance. If a striker is in a bad run of form and confidence is low they start trying to be too deliberate rather than backing their instincts, taking that extra touch etc. Strikers can look absolutely awful, with balls bouncing off them, ball control gone etc when they are low on confidence and yet the same player can look amazing when playing with confidence.

Well, Wood's confidence must be sky high with the luck he's had in front of goal recently!!! Joking aside, it's a good point, and in fairness to Wood, he was getting himself into decent positions even when he was struggling to hit the proverbial cow's arse with a banjo. I think a lot of the criticism stems from how 'ugly' his execution can be a times, he doesn't look a natural finisher. But we can't argue with his return so far and hopefully his streak will continue as we don't seem to have a lot of goals elsewhere in the team currently.

Seriously.

What kind of man would I be if I complained about about having Wood?

Especially at my age.

That is a view I wouldn't argue with, I like him as a player, but have no problem with people saying he might not be the guy to get us to the top, I hope he is and think he could be but Mabey a bit fragile mentally when the going gets tough, still a young chap though which is why I think he could really be a top player with more experience, which he now has.
It's the constant abuse he was getting that annoyed me, even still he's not getting credit

I find it laughable when people moan about his missed chances.

Find me the striker that doesn't miss chances ffs... Messi, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic ALL miss chances too. The fact that they miss fewer than Wood is the reason they are world famous, hideously expensive players who we could never have a chance at persuading to pull on a Leeds shirt in the Championship.

Get real and get off his back, I mean the guy is currently 4th top scorer in the division, what more do you want? He's doing a good job for us, and long may it continue.

Anyone remember how many chances Robbie Keane required to score a goal for Leeds when we had proper attacking players. I used to call him UB40 --- 1 in 10 . :-D
