What next under Cellino?

Post by drsdadsotherson » Sat Apr 05, 2014 10:13 pm

TOMA becomes TO again. This time it's Massimo Cellino taking the wheel to hopefully steer us to the PL once again.

He's a man with money and a mixed reputation in and out of the world of football. This new era could go either way...

I'd be interested to see what people think will be the outcome of his ownership of the club. Will it be time to celebrate? Time to sigh in frustration? Time to wish we'd never heard his name?

Here's my prediction list:

1. MacDermott will not be our manager in August.
2. Elland Road will be owned by Eleonora Sports, not LUFC. This guves him different selling options if/when he decides to move on.
3. Thorpe Arch may be used in the same manner.
4. We're going to see an influx of players from Italy and maybe an Italian manager who looks to swamp the opposition with attacking tactics. Watch for the wing back to feature heavily.
5. We will be promoted within 3 seasons.
6. We will end up plateauing (Is that even a word?) as a mid-table PL club.

What I would like to see:

1. Seigfried Farnon buys out the remaining 25% of the club and succeeds in tempering Celino's wilder side, allowing us a touch of stability. He will then open a horse clinic in the East Stand concourse.
2. More exciting football and a couple of marquee signings will start bringing the crowds back.
3. GFH go bust and end up filling bags of sand for their new occupation.

What I'm worried about:

1. LUFC become an untouchable team for managers looking for a career.
2. We become a club massively underrepresented by home-grown players.
3. Il Presidente takes offense at something someone says and walks.

It's going to be a rollercoaster, DDOS, but I'm not sure we are going to enjoy the ride.

'Nervous excitement' sums me up about Cellino. I may have to widdle on the floor.

It will be interesting to see what role Mike Farnan plays from here in.

His presence might temper Cellino's extremes, if Cellino decides to continue with those discussions of course.

I fear that we are just another asset to be flipped for a profit. I'm not naive enough to think that anyone wants to buy a club and then build a club, but it seems we are taking another step further away from being Leeds United.

Cellino is a loose cannon :shoot:

Hopefully he'll provide the platform to make LUFC great again

I'm not so sure about that. The guy has been trying to get into English football for years now ans spent over 20 years with Cagliari.
He may not be a Leeds fan yet, but given a couple of years of relative success... I think the main factor here will be Tristan Farnon. If he gets on board it will mean short-medium term stability followed by a Farnan takeover.

PRE-ZAKKERLY! LUFC has been the "loose cannon" the authorities love to hate, as long as we have both been supporters, Leon.

This could work! 8-)

Farnan hasn't the money or the bollox to take over LUFC. Cellino has and will do what is needed.

But you predicted an influx of Italian players and stated your worry over a lack of home-grown players. Don't those two things alone constitute a move away from being Leeds United?

Very reasonable predictions DDoS. Hopefully Cellino does a good job for Leeds and doesn't let his ego gets in the way. Hopefully he finances the buying of a quality team without interfering in the day to day management of team affairs and hopefully there are no more unsavoury dealings.

Neither of which will happen - Cellino said that Italian players are not the way forward with an English club.

I'm fairly optimistic. I was not very happy when GFH took over. Only Leeds could have been taken over by Arabs with no money!
Brian is toast. Hopefully they will keep him until the end of the season and start fresh with a new manager and new players (please!)
