Re: To Panic Or Not To Panic

Another example is O'Kane. Fitted into Bournemouth's possession based system. Played great at the start of last season with people asking why he hadn't played more the season before. But then after our initial slump we changed the way we played and it just didn't suit him at all.

Re: To Panic Or Not To Panic

A classic case of turd polishing or players playing better in certain formations or tactics is Bamba. When he first came to us on loan he looked great as we were playing basic football, not trying to play out from the back. In the summer we changed manager and tried to play out from the back. This p...

I looked at Wiki and it was on there that he had been dropped for the last 5. Not saying Wiki is correct, just clarifying where id got the information from
Yeah I had done that too and then looked at some match reports on the BBC to see the lineups and had noticed it wasn't the case.

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Fri 13th July)

Thought I read he was dropped mid season Seems to be a bit of misinformation about. He was banned for 3 matches towards the end of the season but came back into the team as soon as his ban was up and played from that point until the end of the season (I checked on the lineups and he was certainly n...

Re: To Panic Or Not To Panic

If we stick with the same old faces we can forget promotion You can't polish a turd To some degree, when it comes to football, you can. A good manager can certainly get more out of a squad than a bad manager and as Warnock has repeatedly shown getting a team organised and playing to a system can wo...

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Fri 13th July)

Usually the taller you are the slower to get down...BPF is the ideal height for a keeper A lot depends more on the keeper's build than just the size. Blackman is the exact same height as Thibaut Courtois and I wouldn't really say he had a weakness getting down to shots. On looking at Blackman's tim...

Re: To Panic Or Not To Panic

OMG another coach fallen Cooper's presence at ER, he'll soon see his deficiencies on the pitch if Bielsa is as good as I believe him to be If Cooper is used right he has shown he can be a decent centreback. Yes he has had some poor games and some shocking red cards (for stupid tackles rather than t...

I'm waiting for someone at ER to tell us 'We are working hard behind the scenes' Meanwhile Radz is jollying abroad  I wouldn't worry too much about AR being on holiday as he completed a new tv rights deal for his company today. The days of businessmen needing to be in the office/boardrooms to...

Re: Championship Transfer Evolution

In theory as well having Victor Orta and the team dedicated to scouting and recruiting all over the world should make us better at being able to sign foreigners who are cheap but good enough - obviously a bit hit and miss so far and like Cjay says sometimes you have to wait a season for them to accl...

Yeah think that's the fella - I was thinking Doug Livermore but it didn't seem right so that's probably the fella.

Re: To Panic Or Not To Panic

Phil Hay saying some deals are "bubbling away". Still waiting on Blackman to go ahead, not closed the door totally on Vydra and Hernandez and looking at alternatives but given the time frame we dont have many choices. Targets have been pretty well publicised but obviously some have fallen away, Bar...

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wed 11th July)

Morning Weasel, so you're saying that given the choice between Rhodes and Hugill, you'd go Hugill? It is a tricky as no guarantees with either of them in terms of being a success so based solely on their career paths at present (Rhodes seemingly on the decline and Hugill on the rise) then I would p...

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wed 11th July)

Rhodes seems to be on the decline given his limited playing time with recent clubs - if he could get his mojo back then he is a very good player at this level. Hugill seemed to be on the rise but then saw his career stall after moving to the prem and not playing - like so many other players. Hugill ...

Re: Transfers. Signings Rumours and Wishes.

Regardless, bit concerning that neither of these are 1st choice, or even 2nd choice targets. Hope we have a few aces up our sleeve. The thing there is though is that the club have upped the quality of the players they are targeting. Think back to January and the agreement we made to sign Jerry Mbak...

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tue 10th July)

The trouble with a signing such as Vdyra is the combined amount of cash. Let's say £11m transfer fee and £40k p/w wages. Now given that he'd be a valuable asset you would think he'd be given at least a 3 year contract but more likely at least a 4 year contract so it brings the actual cost to nearly ...

Re: Transfers. Signings Rumours and Wishes.

That is the trouble. We agree a fee and their agent is happy to whore his talent out everywhere trying to get more money, knowing that if he can't get more he can still fall back on this offer. Would imagine it is exactly the same with Hernandez and the agent leaking stories of links to the media to...

Re: To Panic Or Not To Panic

If we look at the influenced Bielsa teams then Ayling may thrive, as you say centre backs or wing backs popping up somewhere unexpected creates confusion and overload etc. But to be successful we must control games, for that to work we must be the dominant side overall imo. If we lose it high up th...

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Mon 9th July)

Must admit the lack of the booze/yob culture was a huge plus when I was living in Spain. Obviously the coastline areas is boozy (but that is in general the brits abroad) but how great it was late at night to be able to sit outside bars watching footy, kids running and playing, people drinking but so...

Re: To Panic Or Not To Panic

Hopefully Bielsa can teach him (Ayling) some discipline and positional sense because if not just like under TC he will get caught out. It might well work the other way though as Bielsa seems to like players not having fixed roles as such and being comfortable popping up anywhere on the pitch. I do ...
